A healthy cat poses no risk to humans. In fact, most of the things that make cats sick cannot be passed to humans. As long as you are sure to have the cat get its immunizations, and get it wormed, you should have smooth sailing.

Pets are very good for people. They are a friend when everyone else is mad at you. They give far more than they take. Cats are very clean animals. The biggest danger would be if you have very small children who might hurt the cat.

It would be a good thing for your children to grow up loving animals. It is an opportunity to teach them how to respect other forms of life and makes them more considerate adults.

If you are pregnant-possibly. Cat boxes can be dangerous to pregnant women, so make sure to get someone else to clean it and make sure the cat is up to date on vaccinations and does not go outside. If the children are young, I would certainly recommend supervision between the two until you are sure the cat and children are going to get along with each along. Also, like people, cats have personalities, so you really need to take the cat's personality into consideration. If you have a really shy cat and an outgoing child-it might not work out so great. The only other "harmful" thing I can think of, would be allergies from the dander of the pet, but if no one has allergies, that wouldn't be a problem.

Why would it be harmful? If it were harmful, no one would own a cat. I have 3 kids and 2 cats, a dog, and 13 fish. All of us are okay. It's not good for small children to be around cat urine fumes so keep the litterbox somewhere away from the kids, like out of bedrooms. Best to put it in the bathroom or garage if possible. Other than that, just watch the clawing and make sure to keep your cat vaccinated and treated for worms. Make sure the kids aren't allergic to cats first but even then, there are medications to control the allergy. Asthma kis can live with cats, my son has severe asthma. As long as you groom them and control the dander, it's no problem.

Only if you're allergic to them. I have a cat now (and 2 kids too) and I grew up with multiple cats and I'm fine. Although there is such a thing as too many cats. I think more than 3 or 4 is pushing it. Then your house starts to smell like a litter box, but 1 or 2 can be great to have around.

Na, just make sure you clean up after them. If they get up on your counters make sure you clean up after them.
If they go outside there is more of a chance they will bring "something" home. Get a kitten and start giving it baths and loving him/her :0)
There are very nice pretty cats at the human society who are already socialized trained etc. Some of them are or would be a good cat to get. Some places even have a room to take the cat and play with it and check it out to see if you two get along.
I am not much of a cat person but I have had them and do like them in there proper place. That is not in my yard...

generally it is not harmful
studies have shown families with 2 or more pets have lower incidence of asthema (because the kids are exposed to natural allergins they naturally build up some antibodies so their system doesnt freak out like those kids who live in super clean sterile homes)
also kids grow up learning compassion
people tend to exhibit better stress responses

the biggest risk is worms - so make sure cats are dewormed by vet when you get it.. and even then the risk is low because you would basically have to touch wormy poop then put your hand in your mouth

spayed or neutered cats have fewer health risks
indoor cats live longer lives and remain healthier overall (and wont get fleas etc)

Oh heck no! Studies show that those who have pets live less stressful lives and live longer. They teach children about responsibility and mortality.

No. Even if you have allergies. unless you have asthma and are allergic to the cat. Even this is doubtful.
