I beg to differ with "LoveMyLab," I did some research and found out that catnip is indeed a drug. Just because it is grown as an herb doesn't mean a thing. In fact, I took the following paragraph out and pasted it here for you to read:

"Catnip is a perennial herb. It is a member of the Mint family Labiatae, it is also a distant relation of marijuana."

As for a drug for dogs, I haven't heard of one either and I doubt catnip works on dogs, or it would be called dognip too.

The important thing to know is that your animal doesn't need any kind of drugs. Too much catnip can make you cat sick also. Be very careful what you give to your pets - some things that are safe on us will kill some pets.

The best "high" you can give your dog, is to spend quality time with it and play together. Lots of hugs work too.

"Say No To Drugs" :)

Marijuana is a herb but a drug too. Just because it is natural doesn't mean it wont alter ones mind...or a cats mind lol!

There are many herbs beneficial to dogs, but one would hardly call them drugs! Many minor ailments can be treated safely with a variety of herbs. For example. comfrey, known as "knit bone" does wonders for arthritic joints. St John's Wort helps to calm anxiety. You didn't state what you are trying to treat your dog for. But if you are just wanting to know if there is a plant that dogs have an affinity to like cats do to catmint and catnip, it would be borage. If I am growing it, I literally have to fence it off from my dogs. There are some great herbals for animals, my favourite is "herbs for Pets" by Mary Wulff-Tilford. Fabulous book

Catnip isn't a drug... it is a type of grass. I would advise against medicating your dog to achieve the same effect. As far as non-drug substances go, I have never heard of one that makes a dog act like that. My dog acts like a loon when she is particularly happy... maybe you should try that?

Why do you want to drug your pets?? Catnip is not a drug--it's a herb that cats and other animals enjoy as a "tonic"

Er.. Why do you want to give your dog "drugs"?

That's not right. Leave the poor dog alone.
