I've done this. It's horrible with that little mascara brush they give you. Horrid! Try a big comb or something with a lot of spac. Otherwise, it bunches together and burns your hair.

The easiest way I know how to do it is one of those highlight kits with the shower cap with holes in it. I think its called frosting. You put all your hair into the cap and pull strands out through the holes with a crochet hook looking thing that comes with it.
I don't think it costs much. Tops $10-20. i have done it and it looks nice. how ever much hair you pull out is what gets colored so you can do a lot or a little.
There are also kits for putting chunky highlights in your hair. Same deal price wise.

Use the one with the cap. It costs about $10. You can pull through the amount of hair you want and where you want it. It's hard to do the back, so if you want them all over you might need a friend to help.

Careful if you have dark hair and want blonde highlights. I fried my hair and it turned orange. kinda ugly.

you may get a retail kit (Garnier/l'Oreal etc) from the likes of wallmart and that they're going to artwork, in case you have already blonde hair. they're milder/weaker than salon products so as long as you have hair it quite is obviously mild (or the colour difference you're searching for isn't too drastic) they are going to be effective. Get a chum to assist so as that the effect is even throughout... have you ever tried drawing close interior of reach salons and ask your self faculties/faculties approximately modelling appointment? in the event that they have some attainable, you're in a position to get your highlights achieved for unfastened (in a classification) or a minimum of with a severe decrease cost (according to threat pay for incredients/chemical components required for the job). Appointments take longer because of the fact the artwork is guided/assessed via the instructor yet as long as you have the time and choose the artwork achieved extra low-priced.... :)

Please do not streak your own hair. I have tried this so many times and it NEVER looks good. GO TO THE SALON. Even with the cap and someone helping you it will NEVER look as good as if you got it done properly. I always colour my own hair and it turns out perfect! but I will never streak it again.
