I would say a husky because I had one foe 16 yrs till she passed away in May!! She was 16 & friendly, playful, a good watch dog plus is was good with my 12, 8, 2, 12 month old nephews!! She was a good babysitter!! We could leave her w/ the boys in the front yard & she would NOT let any of the boys near the front gate if they got close she would get between them & the gate & start barking!!
Once my 2 old yr old nephew was in the front yard & I was on the phone w/ my sister (the boys mother) & before I could get off the porch Dom went out the gate & was starting to go near the gutter I yelled "Goldie" (my husky she was 10 yrs old) & she came running & put herself between the street & Dom just as he was about to step into the street when a car drove by!! Goldie saved his life that day!! She also saved my other nephews many times even my mom when a couples of strays ran in to our yard!! Goldie put her self bewteen my mom & the other dogs!!
I WOULD CHOSE A HUSKY any day over any other animal excpet a short hair collie!! They are both good w/ children & good protectors, are loyal, playful!! Both Goldie, & my collie Stella would play with you one minute & defend you the next!! Both breeds are my favorites for I love both my daughters ( yes I considered them my daughters) & there breeds!! Also Goldie was very easy to house train. Teaching her commands was easy as well!! She did like to walk but would not pull my nephews only me!! She only time she left the yard was if we were coming home & parked in front of the house or to protect us!! She loved to pull the boys on our sled up & down the street!! She was so good w/ the boys the babies could pull her hair, tail & she let them. If they wrestled in front of her she go in between them & break it us. If they were fighting she'd get in the middle!! The only time she walked on a leach was when my nephews walked her other wose she didn't need a leach!! She loved to play with the boys but we were never able to teach her to fetch anything!! She was an outside dog until she turned 8 years old then she was inside except for walks, playtime & during the snow storms!! She loved to play in the snow!!

a golden is better because they are not runners. huskys will run no matter what. goldens will stay by your side and the huskys want to be on the move all the time. i have a friend that had a husky and it was a breed that she wanted really bad and then after a week she came home from work and found that her dog was gone. she found out that the dog had jumped the fence and she has not been able to find the dog, so if you ant a dog that you don't have to worry about keeping chained all the time then get a golden retriever, plus they are the best dogs for a family with kids. good luck

actually Gin..its not just huskys who dont bark unless learned...ALLLLLL dogs do not bark unless it is a learned behavior from other dogs and Usually all dogs bark at some point because while still with their mother after birth until about 6-8 weeks of age the mother will bark at them when its feeding time, potty time or bed time or if they are getting in trouble so they learn it then. The only time you will have a dog that doesnt bark is if you have one like mine...I have a pug that was abandoned right after birth that my husband and i found and took home and nursed it to health. He never has been around another dog yet and doesnt bark.....As you the golden ? i would get a golden retriever because they are child friendly, protective over children, a great companion and very docile and easy to train. they are one of the most loveable breeds there is

Goldens are a calmer dog, which is pretty much all I know about them. I've only owned one dog, he's a Siberian Husky, full of energy and stubborn. He is a good dog though, but has to be walked and exercised a lot or they tend to get fat. We got him when we lived in Alaska and he was a lot more bushy than he is now since we live in Alabama. He shed a ton when we first got here and even now that he's climatized he still sheds, I have to vacuum every other day. He is a sweetie though, we got a kitten and he plays with her all the time and is always gentle when he does. He's also my daughter's dog and is very protective over her. He is a good guard dog and always alerts us to the presence of strangers, however, he also lets us know everytime another dog walks by. He is very smart and was easy to train to sit, lie down, speak, house train, but heel and stay forget it (but this could be our inexperience with dogs). We have to take him out leashed or he bolts (not sure if that is typical of the breed or just him). We love him to death and he's always been a good dog for us. We have never had problems with him around younger children either. He's a very sweet dog.

The two dogs represent different personality types. Goldens are usually very relaxed and used in such jobs as seeing eye dogs. Husky's on the other hand have an A type eprsonlity, thye are usually diggers, runners and need lots of exercise. I have a Husky and several of his pups. Although they are adorable and very sweet, they require your devotion and lots of time to run around. Only you can decide what you situation or your environment proovides for either dog. Good luck!

I've owned a Goldie and currently own 2 huskies. Both breeds are great, they are also very different. Just a couple things: Huskies and Malamutes are actually two different breeds. Huskies are not guard dogs, they are very friendly and love kids. What you need to do is research whatever breeds you are interested in and then make a decision. They all have their quircks and their good points, you need to pick one that will fit your life style. Good luck. I loved my Goldie to death but I don't think I would ever own anything but a Husky from now on.

That depends on whether you want to retrieve ducks or pull a sleigh. Huskies are wonderful dogs, but need a lot of exercise to remain healthy. Golden retrievers are better family pets. If you live somewhere in rural area, where a Husky could have lots of space to run, that would be perfect.

from working in a SPCA i learned huskies dint do well as the only dog. they need a companion and a lots of walk since they are working dogs. if left alone they will try to escape and cry a lot. will drive your neighbors insane. golden are more easy going but do need a lot of exercise.
