My 7 year old niece's hair is beginning to break off around the edges, i have a reason to believe that is because of her hair being pulled to tight into a pony tail. I've been trying to let her wear it down but she's so active that it gets messed up easily, yet the problem with her hair breaking off is continueing

my hair stylist says before you get a shower or bath in this case you should brush your hair out. then when your done and your hair is wet you should use a wide tooth comb to get the tangles out but you shouldn't have that many because you brushed your hair out before. Also when brushing your hair you should start at the bottom and work your way up but don't be to harsh and rip at it do it gently. But you will still get split ends no matter what these things just prolong the hair cut look. Hope this helps!!!

Well if this child wears a lot of weave this is not good for the hair. Weave may look good but it does break the hair off, and cover it leaving it no room to grow at all.
If this girl has her hair pulled back in a ponytail ALL OF THE TIME then this is a problem. Let her hair down...wash it with "Cream Of Nature" and then condition it. Comb it out with a BOG toothed comb leave it down for about a day or 2.
If she HAS to have ponytails, try some hair styles with like pigtails...try not to pull the hair up farther to the top of the head as well. Any more questions??? E~mail me! divaliciouslb@yahoo.com

Use the little elastic bands with cloth around them instead of plain old rubber bands.

Don't pull her pony tails so tightly.

Take the ponytails a loose when she goes to bed at night. Tight rubber bands + rubbing your head against the pillow = hair loss.

let it mess up easily, she is a kid and kids are active, don't pull it tightly into a ponytail, that's the exact reason it's breaking. Use some teatree oil, or the shampoo. That helps w/ breakage.

How about a looser pony tail? Or pig tails?
Also make sure the pony-band has some sort of coating on it.
