I will admit that I was having sex with my high school sweetheart as a teen and I didn't tell my parents simply because I didn't want them to know. It was something very personal and I didn't care to share.

1st off not all teens "go out there and have sex" and second if you where a kid and you did get carried away one night and have sex how would you like to go tell your mom. how would you bring that up.... at dinner hey mom dad guess what i did. then it is not like the parents would be cool with that they would have a very awakward talk with the teen about sex and stuff, the would also act all disapointed in the kid and prolly yell. why would a teen do that to them selves?

Well, think about it this way. Okay, so you're a clueless 15 year old who's in love with his girlfriend. You guys have sex. Do you walk up to her Dad and say, "Hey there, Joe! Man, you should've seen your daughter in bed last night. She was GREAT!"? I don't think so. I think that it's stupid to have sex if you aren't ready for a kid, or know how to properly protect yourself, but I don't really see the whole parent scenario playing into the stupidity factor. Sure it would be nice if they knew, so they could help you protect yourselves or whatever, but just to answer your question, I don't think that most teens are too eager to tell their parents about their sex lives, because according to them, they shouldn't even have one!

I'm 17 and started having sex at 16. My mum doesn't know and there is no way in hell i would tell her. She has made it more than clear to me on several occasions that I MUST wait until i'm married to have sex and that if i didn't and also if i got pregnant she would kick me out. Why would i set myself up for that? My mum isn't like most normal caring mums and i know she isn't joking. Here in Australia sex is legal at 16 so I figure i'm not doing any harm and what mum doesn't know can't hurt her.

Well, for them they might feel embrassing to tell their parents and most of the parents wouldn't like it too. Nowdays sex for teens is a very very common thing and as well as a curious thing. Just try it ~ heheee

Embarrassment.. Parents haven't done thier job in building a relationship with thier child in which no subject is taboo...

Fear of reprocussions... "My mom said if I have sex or get pregnant she will kick me out." Ever heard that one? I have heard it hundreds of times all from kids who are having sex but are afraid to tell thier parents because they fear thier parents will actually kick them out...

While parents want to teach thier child it is better to wait for marriage and the knowledge that comes with life experience and age... Parents also need to teach thier children that sex happens and having proper protection is important...

mainly because parents don't make themselves emotionally availiable to their children. parents like to make themselves appear to be the paragon of virtue, or on another higher level, when instead they should be more open with their children so their kids will feel comfortable discussing life's issues such as sex before big mistakes that can't be undone occur.

My parents never cared about me having sex, So thought it was okay, but thinking back, I would have waited till I was older.

Personally...because my parents already assumed I was a whore and there was no reason to enlighten them to my monogamous sexual relationship. I mean how are you supposed to say that? No Dad I'm not sleeping with five guys at once I'm sleeping with one man who I've been dating for two years....yeah that sounds wonderful.
