Almost all US cars are legal in Canada. The only exception I know of is that about 10 years ago KIA was not up to Canadian standards, but they have since changed that. You will not have a problem bringing your car to Canada.

If you're just visiting, then you are not becoming a resident and can bring your American vehicle in as a visitor. I have never heard of a visitor denied entry because of their vehicle.

It is important to make sure that your insurance covers you in Canada--it should as a normal part of your policy. But make certain it does, in any case, as limited policies may not and you do not want to be caught in a accident in Canada without insurance. Canadians don't mess around with these things and several provinces have mandatory insurance schemes.

If you are moving long-term and need to import your vehicle, check out this website as it describes admissable vehicles. You may need modifications as Canadian safety standards are, in my estimation, higher than those in the US (for example all vehicles must have daytime running headlights).

If you own the car and are just visiting, then nothing special is needed. If you plan on selling it, then you will need to ensure that it meets Canadian standards. There are some minor differences. I think Livingston International is the customs broker that deals with registering American vehicles in Ontario. Give then a call to find out for sure.
