You may be developing what's called a "dry socket." The dentist can fix it, but you need to call him or her before things get worse.

Try to bite down on gauze, if it continues to bleed despite home care do not hesitate to contact your dentist. I have never had a tooth pulled, but I would assume the clot wouldn't be completely formed, but if you feel that you are in severe pain and your meds aren't working contact your dentist so he or she can get you another medication to help the pain. I have heard that slight bleeding and oozing of blood is normal after an extraction.

If it starts bleeding agian, put a piece of gauze in the space but do not leave it on longer then five minutes. This will help the clot start to form but will keep you from yanking it out. First thing tomorrow, if it hasn't clotted go back to the dentist.

When I had dry socket they had to put clove-packed 'things' in the space to keep it from hurting. :(

If it is causing you that much pain, then you need to go back to the dentist. You have a dry socket, so your dentist will have to pack it with some type of medication. I had four teeth extracted for braces, and that is exactly what happened to me with one of the extractions. It is very painful..

MELISSA,

I'D CALL THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE AND ASK. THERE SHOULD NOT BE THAT MUCH PAIN AFTER AN EXTRACTION, THE CLOT SHOULD HAVE STARTED TO FORM BY NOW. DRY SOCKET USUALLY STARTS 1-3 DAYS AFTER AN EXTRACTION.
