I have had a imbalance for 21 years and my doctor told me I am unipolar meaning I am one way alot which is usually upbeat manic hyper etc. Have any of you been diagnosed with this condition if so how have you dealt with it?

I thought that unipolar means depression. I didn't think you could be manic with unipolar. The mania would suit bipolar more.

In the last decades affective disorders were divided into unipolar and bipolar and this division has been generally accepted. The bipolar type is manifested by mania or by both mania and depression. On the other hand, unipolar affective disorders are manifested only by depression.

I am unipolor also, it just means you have a chemical inbalance that makes you not have the manic stages of Bipolor so it isnt two (the manic and the depressive stages) you just have the depressive stages where you are sad almost ALL the time. its not fun at all...trust me. ~Jess
