Its Great to take a vacation to the caribbean right now because we are now out of the hurricane season if that is what you are scared of.The Atlantc hurricane season is from July01ts-Novemeber 30th.the Caribbean is also warm throughout the year.Few countries like The bahamas in the north are the countries that get drastic drops in temperatures only due to the cold fronts from America during the winter season.Other than that the Caribbean is blessed with Sunshine and warmth throught with an average temp in most places at 30 degrees celsius or 86 degreed farenheit.
You asked What can you do in January?Different Countries in the caribbean offer different things at different times. No 2 Caribbean countries are the same. Some Countries have festivals carnivals different times throughout the year. There are normally many activities you can do in or out of the hurricane season in all the Carribbean countries like snorkelling bathing on the beah hiking site seeing ect;but it will be to your benefit researching which country and time in that country suites you best according to their seasons and festivities. You dont want to go to a Caribbean island and then the day you are leaving is the day of that they have their huge Carnival celebration or music Festival- get my drift?
If you are looking for the kind of Eco/nature Tourist vacation then the island of Dominica (not the Dominican Repubic,Ple ge them mixed up)is the ideal place to go providing a wide range of activities throughout the year such as whale watching, snorkeling, hiking, bird watching, river tubing, boat rides, horse back riding etc ect.Check the websites of the island Below...

Anytime is good. Hurricane season starts around early June (sometimes may) and lasts till late November (most of the time). Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao are mostlly ut of the Hurricane belt.
January is mostly a quiet month, but there is always something to do somewhere. Check with each islands tourist information center for information on activities.

If you visit the ABC islands witch are Aruba, Bonier or Curraco They're not in the hurricane belt. A good friend of mine just moved down to Curraco. It's about 88 during the day and 76 at night right as of Tuesday evening. I just went in September and it was 95 to 103 during the day. Great dive spots too....

It depends on what you want to do. First off, hurricane season is over!! You have to select a place where it's warm year round, Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, Dominican Republic. You can swim, dive, snorkel, shop, play tennis, do basically any siteseeing you like. We just got back from Curacao and it was in the 90's but nice and breezy. We swam and hung out in the day, went out to the casino and a couple of bars at night...and relaxed!!

I've been there quite a few times. You can go any time during the year, but the best time to go is in the winter because that's when the rates are the lowest.
One thing to remember, though, is that in 2007 you will need a passport to go ANYWHERE outside of the United States. This includes Canada and Mexico.

you want to relax and enjoy the sun wait till may, lot safer and not a whole lot of traffic in the air or on the beach's, but don't go during hurricane season. Be safe and smart, have fun and good luck.

I'm there, its great. It's a little cooler, so if your not used to the tropical heat its great. But the sun is still shining, it's still a perfect day out.
