This would be a great fight for boxing "purists". It also could be a boring fight. Whitaker was a better fighter. I think that Benitez was a more effective puncher. I have Benitez eking out a slim close majority decision because of his more effective scoring.

Two masters of defense and counter punching. In a strategic fight where both fighters wait for the other to lead so they can counter, Benitez squeaks out a close split decision due to him landing the heavier punches. He had more power than Pernell.
