Remember, Gehazi wasn't just around when Naaman was healed; he was around Elisha all the time as his servant, and so would have known what Elisha stood for as well as what was expected of him as Elisha's servant.

Gehazi would have been around Elisha for long enough to know that he shouldn't mess with the greater purpose that his master was looking out for. Apart from the fact that Gehazi lied, he knew that Elisha didn't want to accept gifts from Naaman.

The lesson Elisha wanted to teach Naaman was that God does things for free; you don't have to pay Him in order for him to consider you.
However, by taking payment, Gehazi weakened that lesson, and re-enforced in Naaman's mind that if he had enough money, he could get anything.

So, it was the fact that he went against 'the plan'; he was part of a team, and didn't support his master as he should have, even though he should have known better (remember Elisha was doing God's plan, and so Gehazi was going against God).

The worst part of it is that on top of all that, he lied to try to cover it up.

(And yes, it does seem a bit harsh, but there you go! When you have a lot of responsibility, a lot is expected of you)

Dishonoring God's Word that God's gifts are free.

Dishonoring God's prophet by lying about what Elisha said.

Lying to Elisha.

Greed. (Love of money, root of all evil);

Greed was the underlying sin that brought forth the other sins.

Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' "

Although inadvertantly, like Paul, what happened to him in acts;

Acts 28:4-5
When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, "This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live."

But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.

I would have the faith to believe that the same thing would happen to me!
