If it's Brooklyn, that's South Williamsburg and I live in that neighborhood. Broadway is sort of like a dividing line between the Hasidic Jews to the south and the Hispanics (Puerto Rican and Dominican) to the north. You see more Hispanics though.

I really hate that part of the neighborhood because there is still a drug/crime problem. I don't feel totally safe walking around Broadway alone at night even though nothing that bad has happened to me (yet) in 10 years. There are still a lot of shady people around there though. I get sexually harassed multiple times a day and one crazy crackhead followed me into my building about 4 years ago. The neighborhood has gotten much safer in the past few years but it's still not great. There's been a few serial rapists here and there but that could be any neighborhood. There are now more rich yuppies walking around and some luxury condo buildings but for the most part (honestly) it's still kinda crappy. 60 Broadway is the Gretsch building where Busta Rhymes and a few other celebrities bought brand new luxury loft spaces. The neighborhood is changing.

That address is directly next to the above ground subway line (the J, M, Z train) and it's very noisy but it's less than a 1/2 block from the Hewes St. stop on the J (2 stops away from Manhattan). You could always walk north to the Lorimer stop on the L train which is about 9 blocks north/northeast. That stop is also only 2 stops from Manhattan and it runs across 14th St. to Union Square where you can easily get uptown. I prefer the L train, especially at night because it feels a bit safer than the J, M, Z.

That address is also a short walk to Williamsburg Bridge Plaza where you can hop one of many buses. You can also walk over the Williamsburg Bridge if you're feeling up to it (It's fun, I recommend it and it's completely safe in the daytime. I've done it at night and been fine too.)

The address "339 Broadway, New York City" would be in Manhattan. If it is in Brooklyn, then the address is "339 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY". Which is the one you're going to be at???

If it's the Manhattan address, that's what the other people who answered are describing. You will be in Manhattan in the center of the action and in a good neighborhood.

If you meant Broadway in BROOKLYN, then you will be in the Williamsburg neighborhood. My friend used to live on that street in Brooklyn. Williamsburg is a neighborhood which has recently gentrified (got nicer) and now has a lot of young people, interesting shops and good eateries, and some art galleries. It's a good place to stay. To get into Manhattan you will only need to take the L train (subway) for one or two stops, so it's close and easy. Manhattan is the "New York City" you always see on TV and in the movies.

So there you have it - I think you're fine at either 339 Broadway, whether it's Manhattan or Brooklyn. If you have a choice, Manhattan would be better for a visitor, but if you're staying in Brooklyn at 339 Broadway then you'll like that also.

A recommendation for eating in Williamsburg, Brooklyn - try "Diner" which is right on Broadway near where you're staying, it's an old Diner like a train car, but it's been modernized and it's very cool, plus the food is very good and inexpensive. Also, Peter Luger's is on Broadway in Brooklyn, and it's the BEST steakhouse in NY City (but it's expensive if you do decide to eat there). Another place that I love in Williamsburg is "Planet Thai" which has great Thai food and sushi, and is a very nice place with incredible atmosphere.

Good luck!

339 Broadway in Brooklyn is not a good area but transportation to Manhattan is practically outside your door. 339 Broadway in Manhattan is a good area, you're close to Chinatown and Soho.

It's gotta be brooklyn because if it's Manhattan it's somehere between Canal st and the woolworth building and I don't think that that any one lives on broadway in the financial district. I could be wrong.
