I guess the points make it interesting and like the others said it would be kind of pointless and boring if there were no point system and yeah it is pretty addicting. That was a cool question I wondered that often but never asked thanks for asking.

so that it makes yahoo! answers a bit intersting-er. can you imagine this without points? pretty dull, eh? plus theres them levels which can get you up to level 7 i think. haha. just an idea yahoo!'s proposing..
