This issue is that he is terribly spoiled. I have 3. They are all treated the same. He is 1 1/2. I rescued him out of a box when he was a couple of months old. He was parasitic, scared and absolutely adorable. He would cuddle up on my shoulder and hide his head and sleep for hours. I love him like a child. I love all of them, but this little guy has me wrapped. He's so darn sorry when he's naughty. The problem is that have been working more and more from home and he will sit under my desk and cry and cry for me to pick him up. I absentlmindesly picked him up a few times and now he doesn't stop. I've tried to let him whine for a while but it's relentless and I have to get some work done. I've tried putting him in his crate, moving the crate. Barks at me, cries. Gets my other two all upset when they would normally be ok. I had steps made so they can get up in my bed without my help and he will stand by them and cry for me to pick him up and put him in bed. Help!

If he whines, move him to another room and shut the door. When he realizes the only way to be with you is to shut up, then he'll learn to hush.

I put a dog bed by my computer but the dogs have to chase the cat out if they want in there.

I have one dog that refused to use the bed steps. I just went to bed. She whimpered for about ten minutes then I walked her up the steps. After the 4th night I didn't get back up to help her and she came up and went to bed. Every once in a while she cries again and I just say her name and pat the bed and she comes up. So controlling!!

The best thing to do is stop now! When he whines or barks, DON'T DO ANYTHING! Don't even look at him or tell him to stop. Since you picked him up after he had whined for a long period of time, he's going to think that if he just sits there and whines for a longer period of time that sooner or later you will pick him up. Don't do it... If you feel tempted to do it, literally just walk away from him and what ever you are doing. When he finally stops whining go on and pick him up and play with him. Then give him a toy to chew on or something, then go back to what you were doing. At night instead of letting him push you around and get you to pick him up, ignore it and just let him throw a fit. DoNot incourage his bad behavior by giving in, just don't give him any attention uptil he has completly stopped. Does he know how to sit on command? Maybe that will help, if you can teach him to sit on command, then pick him up because then he will think that he is being rewarded for listening to what you tell him to do, and will maybe stop whining all the time. Good luck, and let me know how things go~ miz_ndpendent25@yahoo.com ~ Sierra

You are going to have to put up with the crying and whining for a bit until this dog is broken of his bad habits. He is controlling you. You are supposed to be the pack leader and the only way you are going to regain control is by letting him cry it out until he realizes you are not going to give in to him. If you keep giving in to him you will always have a problem.
