My husband told his father not to pay the rent but I disagree. I've been trying to tell him that his father has to pay the rent because he lives here. His father has a good job which he can affords. Am I selfish that I tell him about his father paying the rent? What should I do?

I guess it really boils down to alot of things the two of you have to agree upon. Ask yourself these things:

Can he afford it?
Can you afford it?
Is he willing?
Does your husband feel like he owes him something?

No your not selfish, he more than likely should be paying rent. Tell your husband to reverse the rolls. What would his Father do if he still lived at home?!?!?!? You have to learn to pick your battles in a marriage if it's not worth it then don't even start, i.e. if both parties are absolutley certain of their decisions.

Mia: Since your husband's father is living with you both and sharing in the use of all the utilities (food too), it is not only right that you expect him to pay his way, but he should be offering to anyways. He is employed and has the $ to do so ! You are NOT selfish for expecting this and your husband shouldn't be on you for expecting him to. If he lived on his own, he would be paying his way; so, why should he expect a free ride from you two ? Better still, it would be a good idea that he moved out on his own so you and your husband can be a family ! Good luck to you !
