Quick Question.....If we are forgiven, through repentance, and through salvation, what is judgment for?

A friend of mine believes there will be rewards for us in heaven, so we get in through Salvation, and our rewards are less the more sinful we are. Im not sure I buy that, so whats your take? If we have Salvation, why are we judged?

Bible verses to support it would be awesome too.

For any non-christians who want to answer in a rude or demeaning way, you will be ignored. Play anyway, but I wont listen.

Please do not be confuse sweetie, There a few judgements that will occur when the Lord returns. These Judgements are all seperate events.

1) The Judgement of the nations. This is the probably the Judgement of non-believers on how they live on this earth. The way they treat other people. - Matt 25:31-32(You can read until 46 so that will be in context)

2) The Judgement of the believers. This will happen at the marriage supper of the Lamb. This is where the Lord will judge the believers according to their works. Not to condemn them but to say thank you and give them rewards. We are not save by good works but we are saved for good works. So this is where it happens. All of them are believers. - 1 Corinthian 3:12-15, 2 Corinthans 5:10 (This is called the Bema Judgement seat of Christ, it is a controversy though as it is debateable whether this is a true event)

3) The Great White Throne Judgement. This is the Judgement for everyone. Everyone will be there, past and Present. All your past deeds will be exposed. - Revelation 20:10-15

So sweetie, if we clump all he judgement into 1... it is indeed confusing... if your friend was taught that there was a judgement of the believers, he would say that it was for rewards.

These are the rewards -
The Incorruptible Crown - given to those who master the old nature (1 Cor. 9:25-27).
The Crown of Rejoicing - given to soul winners (Prov. 11:30, Dan. 12:31, 1 Thess. 2:19-20).
The Crown of Life - given to those who successfully endure temptation (Jas. 1:2-3, Rev. 2:10).
The Crown of Righteousness - for those who especially love the doctrine of the rapture (2 Tim. 4:8).
The Crown of Glory - given to faithful preachers and teachers (Acts 20:26-28, 2 Tim. 4:1-2, 1 Pet. 5:2-4).

Hope this helps

The only part in the bible that could even come close to supporting that claim would be
John 14:2
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

In my oppinion this is a stretch. The reward for salvation is salvation itself...being removed from those who deny christ and not having to pay the sin wage of eternal death.

The judgement is the finality of grace and mercy. At atime of God's choosing he will decide to reward the faithful and test the unfaithful. The faithful will be rewarded through the rapture taken to be with christ during the tribulation period. After the removal of grace the faithful will be martyred...there will be no grace during the tribulation time. THe judgment is the final call of god to reunite with his most loved creation and to as the bible says seperate the wheat from the tares

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat (Bema) of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

The Bema judgment is the judgment of rewards for Christians.

1 Corinthians 3:11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw-- 13 each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

When we devote our time, talents and treasure to God's Kingdom work here on earth making an eternal difference our work will survive and we will receive a reward. If someone has faith but spends their time in worldly pursuits then they only have "fire insurance" salvation. When it come times for the judgment of rewards they will still be saved but they will suffer the loss of eternal rewards.

I wondered this myself too. Here's basically what I concluded just from pondering it......

What use would riches or crowns be for us in heaven? You see I think our reward will not be in accepting a reward, but in knowing we brought glory to God. To elaborate, the New Testament is clear that man cannot impress God enough into letting them in heaven, so what use are good works? Good works, when led by the Spirit, are done for the glory of God, not for our own righteousness because our righteousness is like filthy rags. However, in heaven somehow God will tell us that by our good deeds, we brought glory to him. While we thought we were filthy and wicked on earth, God will let us know there were certain things which brought him glory and knowing that will be our reward.

As to judgement in heaven, I don't think God will really "judge" the true believers in the sense that he will not show us our bad deeds on some heavenly tv screen. I think it is a silly idea that God would say, "Look what you did here. And there, oh that was cruel. And look at this evil you did!? ........... But you made it anyway so congradulations"

As true Christians we should be ashamed of our sins, and it seems improper that in heaven God would show us ALL of our sins in clear memory. Besides, isn't there scripture that he would "remember their sins no more"?

This is mostly speculation though of what I think it will be like.

At the judgment seat of Christ you will be judged for human good. It will be put in a big Bonn fire and burned. Satan is the author of good and evil. He wants you to perform human good apart from the filling of the Holy Spirit. I believe that there are blessings in time and eternity. God wants you to have maximum blessing. Sin is not the issue as it was solved at the Cross by Jesus. You will receive less blessing because you do not utilize the filling of the Holy spirit. We need to use 1John1:9 and pray. We need to study the Bible, and partake of the Sacrament. It is late and I would like to look up more scripture for you but it will have to wait. If you live in the USA . Please look up 2nd Chronicles 7:14. This is what is needed to save our nation. GOD says that in his house are many mansions. Remember the Christian way of life is a supernatural way of life and demands a supernatural means of execution. That is why the beloved unbeliever does not understand. I am glad that you ignore the rude comments. I do also. I do not care what people think of me. I know that God loves us all though. Peace out.

Once we are judged to be righteous, we will be rewarded for our service in the Kingdom.

Calvin: "There is no inconsistency in saying that God rewards good works, provided we understand that nevertheless men obtain eternal life gratuitously."

1 Cor. 9:25 - the victor's crown
1 Thess. 2:19 - the soul winner's crown
2 Tim. 4:8 - crown of righteousness
1 Pet. 5:2-4 - crown of glory
Rev. 2:10 - martyr's crown

These aren't based on good works to get into Heaven - they're based on what we do for God after Salvation. Make sense?

The Christians are not judged like those who do not claim their salvation in the Lord. They are judged according to the good works that we have done. We don't even go through the same judgement seat. We go to the Bema Seat during the tribulation. Everyone who has not accepted the Lord as their savior will face the Great White Throne Judgement at the end of the tribulation.

OK we are saved by grace. Salvation is a free gift, but we are judged by our works and rewarded according to our works. If we accept Christ and follow Him we are saved to live for eternity.

If in addition, we do great things for Him for many years here on earth before we die or before Christ's second advent then we get rewarded in many ways such with greater responsibility in heaven.

Judgement is partly for the universe to determine if God is just with every person. The conflict between good and evil in the universe is all about God's character. Is He just or not. The devil charges that God is not just and it is in the judgement that each person's life is evaluated and God's work for that person is seen by the onlooking universe. God's reward is also evaluated. God says here are those who have shown they are safe to bring into heaven and the angels and others of God's kingdom get to see how God has made that decision. Everything that God does in the judgement is transparent so all can be satisfied the He is just and fair. Satan is there to claim He is not fair.

"If we are forgiven, through repentance, and through salvation, what is judgment for?"
We escape God's wrath (judgement) by trusting Him. Repentance is turning from your ways, to His ways. Salvation was provided for by the works of Jesus Christ, the kind of works that we are incapable of doing. This is because perfection is the goal, and in all of history, Jesus was the only one who could do it.

"A friend of mine believes there will be rewards for us in heaven, so we get in through Salvation, and our rewards are less the more sinful we are."
The only rewards that we have in heaven are those that God inspires in us. That's why we say, "Glory to God." Because without His inspiration, we can't even WANT to come to Him.
John 6:44. Let alone, do His work.

So the focus isn't on sin, it's on how we find ways to trust Him. If we walkaround constanly trying not to sin, our focus is wrong, for we are natually sinners, saved by Grace, by trusting Jesus Christ, who is to be our focus.
Hebrews 12.

We are only forgiven if we call upon Jesus for that forgiveness. Although everyone of us has the opportunity fo rheaven, God is going to judge all of us because of our wicked ways. In Heaven, sin cannot exist, and that is why on this earth because we are such sinful creatures, we will never see that chance of heaven. Because of our sin, we were torn apart from the hands of God, and that is why Jesus came to this earth. Take into account: If I did something wrong towards you, and I was truely ashamed for what I had done, and wanted you to forgive me, I would have to be so in my heart. The words alone are not enough, because any time I did wrong towards you, I could just simply ask forgiveness, but you would know that I'm not seeking it within my heart. No one on this earth is without out sin, and because of that, no matter who we are, all of us will suffer in an eteranal Hellfire. God judges us on where our faith with Jesus stands. As it is written: "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life. He who does not have the Son of God does not have life". 1 John 5:11-12
