When I was pregnant with my 4 year old son, I craved iceburg lettuce. I would eat a three pound bag in a day with no problem. Right out of the bag with no dressing or anything. A little carrots, no cabbage. Now I still crave it and I still eat a lot of it. I can eat 3 lbs. a day but I try to limit myself to 2 lbs a day. Is this bad for me? Am I the only one that eats this much iceburg lettuce? I feel like I should be in the Guin. book of records!

Thanks to all for answering, and I do LOOOVE iceburg lettuce. Sometimes my tummy will get a little bump from eating too much but I drink water, or eat bread and it is all fine. I hate when we go on trips and I have to be without it, I can only go maybe a day and a half, then I have to stop at a store and get some lettuce. I know it can be annoying to my huby, but so is drinking, and gambling amongst other things!

Most of us think of eating lettuce and salads (light or no dressing) as healthy and good. So its great to eat your veggies and greens! On the other hand, too much fiber in your diet can interfere with your body's ability to absorb vitamins and minerals. Any imbalance, high or low, may cause those cravings. Pregnant women sometimes retain fluids due to high levels of minerals in the body, which may cause those cravings. Your current cravings may be due to having low vitamin and mineral levels, and you have trained yourself to curb the cravings you feel by eating that much lettuce and that may be the very cause of your cravings. Maybe this routine worked great when you were pregnant as the fiber helped in reducing those levels (a friend of mine was pregnant and she was puzzled that she was retaining fluids-- swelled hands and feet -- and stopped drinking water, and that made her problem worse). Something to think about, I guess it is way better than downing a few bags of popcorn or junk food.
(It may be Brilliant! to call Guinness before you change your habit if you decide to that :-)
Then again, "I'm not a doctor" ;-)

As a previous poster mentioned, it is mostly water - as long as you aren't eating so much of it that you are too full for a balanced diet.
Definitely check with your doctor. Pregnant women and kids aren't the only ones who have "picas", (although this would reference a actual food pica). Sometimes cravings are a key to some nutrient you are deficient in. For instance, people who crave ice and like to eat it usually have an iron deficiency. This may be the case....I noticed you didn't say that you "loved" iceberg lettuce....

Iceberg lettuce won't harm your bunny, this is basically that it has hardly any nutritional fee. it is why it is not likely in our prefer to eat it the two. this is in general water, so it could make your bunny's droppings a splash gooey. vibrant green, leafy lettuces like romaine have extra nutritional fee than that of the iceburg.

I believe iceburg lettuce is mostly water, and cotnains little nutritional value and almost no calories. So, as long as you're not using any fatty, calorie-heavy dressing on it, you'll probably be OK. Then again, eating that much of anything probably isn't good. You should speak with your doctor.

I love it too! No and that is actually quite healthy for you, most crave salty foods and junk like chips and cake.
It is full of water and perhaps your body was lacking water at the moment which gave you a craving for Iceberg lettuce since it is like almost all water.

Simply stated, your body is craving this food for the nutrient contents. Be grateful you are craving a healthy food and not Snicker bars !
( My mother used to tell me when I was young, that lettuce was good for your nerves) old wives tale, but you know how many of them seem to be right! She also said peanut butter would help lower your blood pressure.

Sounds great to me. Even though there may be veges with more nutrients, how many of us eat chips that are completely nutrient-free with tons of calories. Add a different vege annd fruit too every once in a while and you will be set.
Have you tried iceberg with a dressing of just rice vinegar and a little soy? It's so awesome!
