I've never had poison ivy (knock on wood) but I have had bad cases of hives. I take benadryl, just follow the instructions on the box. I also poor baking soda into a bath. The heat will help and the baking soda has an ingredient that helps to nutrilize the itch. In the past I have also used a product called bite away, it's for insect bites but I find it really helps with hives as well and is better than caladryl. Good luck.

There are a lot pf different products over the counter...Caladryl, calamine lotion Benadryl allergy formula & Cortizone-10 cream. The results were that the next day, not only was the oozing stopped, but it was almost dried up. The itch had stopped, too. Great stuff to try.
You might also use Aveeno bath and cream as it helps the itching and thus prevents it spreading.
ALso Prednisone (not sure on the spelling) is one of the best things out there, but you will need a prescription..
I get it every year and alway have to go to the doctor as I had it when I was younger and it got in my blood stream, Prednisone or sometimes called a Medrol dospack is the only thing which will compelely clear me up...I feel for you!

The more moisture that is present the more the itchy feeling and the aggravation. When nothing else worked, i.e. calamine lotion, etc. Take a luke warm bath and use soap that dries the skin, like lye soap or something close to it, then PAT dry the infected areas completely then apply rubbing alcohol to the infected areas (caution: open sores will burn this is why it is necessary to pat dry!) Then leave the infected areas open to the air, as much as possible, this also helps dry out the bumps.
This is what we had to do as children, it worked, in about two days it cleared up.

Oh,, you got it good.
I had it once like that, good news, you will never get it as bad again.
Take three baths a day in cool water, not hot. Take Baking soda, and soke in it. That will take care of the itch.
As soon as you get out of the water, take your blow dryer, dry out your skin. Then put the calamine lotion on. Use the blow dryer.
Once your dry, you will be good for a few hours.
But the bath opens and closes your pores and helps in the drying out presses. Use hot towels on your face. not too hot.
If you have it on your scalp. I know I did. I kept in the water.
I put hot water in just to relive my itch.
You can use the spray, for pain, that helps too. You know for burns. But any anti itch will help. But mostly it should be doing better. But baths help the itch. And help it to dry faster.
I had it for two weeks. I have walked in poison ivy after an never had a out brake like that one. So good news, you will never have that again.

Are you taking Benadryl? It was the one thing that always worked for me. And in my day it was prescription only.
Get the generic and it is pretty cheap. It can make you drowsy, but it does help the itch.

I only got it once, but I popped the blisters and poured Clorox bleach into them (my grandfather swore by this method). It is painful, but it worked. However, talk to a pharmacist at your local drug store for less painful and effective methods.
