I wouldnt worry a whole lot about fashion as to staying warm.It has been unseasonably warm here lately but the storm is now starting to come in.NY winters are tough.Bring sweat shirts/coats,,warm coat,,boots~like hiking boots,,leggings for under your jeans/pants,,winter hat/gloves & scarf if you like them,,& thick socks. An absolute nono would be,,summer clothes,,high heel dress shoes,,Welcome to NY. :O) e-mail me if you would like a NY friend,,Im good people.

The midriff-baring shirts seem to be out. Maybe if you go to some of the web sites of the fashion magazines, you'll get an idea. If you go on the subway in NYC, you'll see just about everything! It also depends on where in NY you are moving. Near the Canadian border (Plattsburgh, Massena, Watertown), it gets quite cold in the winter (-20 Celsius and Fahrenheit!). You'll want to wear warm clothes. In western NY (Buffalo, Syracuse, Oswego), there is a lot of lake-effect snow, so you'll want to have a good pair of boots and gloves, and a warm jacket. Also in southern NY, there are some nor'easters that drop a foot of snow at a time, and they occur about once a month or less in January, February, and sometimes March. Last winter was relatively mild, with almost no nor'easters.

No one in NYC really cares how you dress. Just wear what you want. It's like any other city in the world.
