I thought Windows Movie Maker comes default in Windows XP.
Start > All programs > Accessories > Windows Movie Maker.
I'm just double checking you've looked here.

I had a similar problem with another program and something called DEP was the issue. I hope this helps.
Follow the steps given below:
1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Performance.
3. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
4. Click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. (click add and choose movie maker from program files shown below the c drive if it does not appear all ready ). Click OK, and then restart your computer.

I actually stumbled on it in my computer. I had service pack I on my computer at the time, so I just went to find and searched for movie maker. If you have a recovery disk or your windows CD, it may be on the CD, if you have uninstalled movie maker 2. Search your computer to see if Movie maker exe is still on your computer somewhere like the original media player.exe. Good luck
