you don t need to buy a dog that cost that much. why dont you go to a shelter or humane society and save a life. the other thing a pet is for the entire family and everybody needs to agree. remember a dog lives sometimes for 15 years or more. what happen to the dog when you go to college or get married.? puppies are fun but a lot of work.since they need to be trained. and a puppy does grow up and sometimes dont play that much.

First off working on proving that you are responsible enough for a dog is a good idea; You can do that by helping out a lot with the house-hold chores, like sweeping, doing the laundry, cleaning the bathroom and your bedroom, and doing the dishes. If you already do that type of stuff, try making sure that you are doing it without being asked. Next you want to keep your grades up... Try going for straight A's, but if that isn't something that you can do, then at the least go for the B's. Third, show that you can take care of the dog in the house now, before you go getting another one. You want to show your parents that you can take care of more than yourself, maybe teach the dog a new trick... :-) You don't have to do that, but it would be cool to show your parents that you have patience for a dog. Anyhow, good luck and let me know if I can do anything else for you.~ miz_ndpendent25@yahoo.com ~ Sierra
PS- If your parents do decide to let you get a dog, PLEASE, I'm going to ask you not to get a dog from a breeder, ESPECIALLY from the newspaper ads! Please go to this site, because there are so many homeless dogs and I think that if you love dogs so much that saving a dog from be euthanized/killed would be so much better than getting one from one that is bringing them into the world to just be put on the streets and in the shelters. Please adopt a dog from an animal shelter instead... you can still get a puppy that is small from one.... http://www.petfinder.com It is also less expensive to adopt one also, always between $45-$120, depending on age.

The cheapest way to get a dog is to adopt it; but it takes longer. The big plus is you save money. You can go to Petsmart (sometimes they have adoption at the store, check the ads or call them), or check the dog pound. There are poor little dogs that need to be rescued - and you may find one you like. You said you already have a dog; do you just play with the dog or you're taking care of it - like walking it, clean after it, feed it, give the dog a bath, etc? Or do your mom does all of the not so fun part. If so, your mom would not want you to have one because she has to take care of it. Remember having a dog is like having a little child; the cost to take it to the vet and grooming are tremendous. I'm sure you already know that.
Good luck on searching a dog! Check these websites:

You sound like you are a very responsible 14 year old. And it sounds like you have a lot of love to give to a dog. You have to begin asking your parents now if you want them to pitch-in (like, say, for Christmas). Do your homework and check out lots of different small dogs. Maybe look at some that aren't as expensive if you think $500-$600 is too much for your parents. Visit a few puppies in your spare time and narrow down the ones that you would like. Then, beg your parents to go "look" at them with you. Stress how responsible you are and how you plan to take good care of your new friend. My bet is, with that selling point, plus the fact that Christmas is so close, you will get your new puppy. Good luck to you!!! And e-mail me and let me know what happens! (I love dogs too!)

Being a parent of all boys and recently got them an early Christmas present that's a Lab pup, I can tell you how they convinced me. Being in an apartment will be harder but if you've had more than one dog there before, maybe not quite as hard. Just be sure not to be pushy about it, bugging them will only make them mad and lower your chances of getting one. Make sure you can prove to them you can be responsible. Help around the house more (before and after the puppy should you get one), do more for the dog you have now, start trying to find odds and ends jobs now to help earn money before you can work in the working field. Walking dogs would be a great start! Another great way would be volunteering at your local humane society but remember to talk to your parents about that before doing it because chances are, you'll need a ride. If you do that, you may even find a homeless puppy that you like that need a great home. =) Good luck!

if you dont care and love the dog you have right now, your parents would feel like you would do the same to the new dog once it grows. like it's just a novelty to you.prove to them that you are capable and mature enough to have a dog of your own.if not, save your money for something else. there are a lot of neglected dogs out there and it would be a pity for your dog to end up as one of those.if you can't afford to buy a dog, how much more the maintenance for it. give your old dog a chance to be loved by you.it doesn't deserve to be unwanted.plus, it wouldn't cost you a cent.

What I would do is research the type of dog that you want. Get as much information about it, including its average purchase price, vet costs per year (shot, worming, flea and tick preventatives, etc.) costs for food and care (baths, toys, etc.) Once that you have done this, come up with a plan for how you will care for the puppy.
Once that you have done this, sit your parents down and present your information to them. By showing this was well thought out, I can't see that your parents would deny you the puppy.

animal rescues usually don't charge more than the cost of fixing the animal and giving it is shots, and you can visit with your pick before you adopt. they usually check for bad behaviors before they let a pet be adopted. You can work the "saving an abandoned animal" angle to try to soften up your mom.
Be careful when buying from individual breeders from the paper, we bought a supposedly purebreed puppy who turned out to have a deadly contagious disease that couldn't be cured and could have been spread to our other pets if we had not caught it.

find tons of information. look up pet stores near u on the Internet. decide ahead of time what kind you want, and print pictures of that dog. find out it's average price, too. make sure you impress them. if you want to order from the Internet., get the breeders phone number, and ask them about availability.
