The fundamental difference is that Christianity teaches that God is our loving Father, we're all sinners, and he loves us anyway. He loves us so much that he sent his son to live with us, eat with us, work with us, and suffer and die with us, forging an unbreakable bond between Him who is Everything and us, who are nothing.

Islam teaches that the idea of God being our "Father" is wrong because God does not have a wife and does not beget children; and that God does not love sinners. The Koran lists some 22 different types of sinners that God does not love.

I have posted this question twice: Does Allah love sinners? The typical Muslim answer was "why should he?" One answered, it depends on whether people sin by accident or on purpose -- the ones who sin on purpose are "the type God hates."

While there are many superficial differences, this is the fundamental chasm that separates the two.

Muslims believe that Moses, Jesus and Mohammed are messengers and prophets of God. They believe that God is one and has no partners or associates.

Christians believe in Moses as a prophet and that Jesus is a part of God in the Holy Trinity, which consists of himself, the Holy Spirit and the Father in heaven. Christians believe these three entities form God.

Muslims believe in the unity of God like some sects of Christianity (Unitarians). They say the early Christians like the Arians, used to worship one God and the later generations elevated Jesus as a partner or part of God.

Christians believe that Jesus died for the sins of humanity and whoever believes in him will gain salvation. Muslims say each person is accountable for his or her sins and he/she will be either forgiven or held accountable for them on Judgement day.

Both believe in hell, heaven and satan.

Muslims on the other hand believe that the Holy spirit is the arch angel Gabriel who delivers God's message to the prophets. They also believe in Jesus' second coming and his miracle birth. But they say these miracles are from Allah ( the Arabic name for God) and that each prophet has his miracles.

Christians hold the Bible to be the word of God, while Muslims say the Bible was once the clear and uncorrupted Word of God until people started corrupting it and so Allah sent another Prophet and another book which the Muslims call the Quran.

Muslims worship the God of Jesus, Christians worship Jesus

Surely, they have disbelieved who say: "Allâh is the Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary)." But the Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)] said: "O Children of Israel! Worship Allâh, my Lord and your Lord." Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allâh, then Allâh has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode[. And for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers) there are no helpers. (Qur'an 5:72)

ALLAH is one and only one. He gives no birth and there is none born unto him. Jesus(PBUH*) is a prophet of ALLAH. ALLAH is the creator of the entire universe and Jinn and men. Christians think Jesus(PBUH*) is the Son of God or God himself. Islam treats women with respect while Christianity treats women like slaves and animals who are inferior. Christians use a symbol(cross) to remind them of lies where as Islam doesn't believe or have any use for symbols. Muslims believe both Adam(PBUH*) and Eve were to blame for being kicked out of the Garden of Eden and repented to ALLAH. Christians believe women are soley responsible for men dying and the reason that Adam(PBUH*) and Eve were kicked out. Christians think women have inherited the guilt and shame of Eve and that all women are evil.

It is completely based on the differences in their Bibles.

The Bible is a collection of stories; stories of people wrestling with "good and evil". The Koran is a set of instructions; rather devoid of personality. Well, I imagine a psychiatrist could diagnose that the entire Koran, collectively, is in itself a personality; a schizoid personality at that.

Call me a Hindu, but, at first glance, I was impressed by Muhammad spending 22 years writing* that set of instructions we call the Koran. (*Well of course, he didn't really write them, he was an illiterate. But, I am sure you get the point.)

In summary, the Koran is a poem (set of instructions) about everything. And, it took 22 years to write (compose).

Each day, Muhammad listened to the crowds in Mecca, learned who was who and what was what, and then he would routinely go to a cave near the top of a nearby hill and "ask God to give him instructions"; instructions in regards to the events of the day. Therefore, the instructions of the Koran became a reflection of the life and times of Muhammad.

As inspired by God? Well, maybe in the beginning; when Muhammad was preaching charity, patience and forgiveness.

But, when he was kicked out of Mecca, he became bitter and began preaching whatever would encourage his listeners to sacrifice their lives in order to re-conquer Mecca and build his empire.

Muhammad then preached that it was ok to kill anyone who did not worship him.

The first part of the Koran teaches to be good and harmonious.

The second half of the Koran teaches to be cruel and disharmonious to anyone that does not properly worship Muhammad.

The Koran in a nutshell: "Be good unless you want to be bad." (An ideal religion for all splinter groups)
