There are many great places to visit depending on 1) what is your interest: eg shopping, culture, entertainment, history 2) how much time are you spending there 3) where in Thailand will you be staying.

I think you should go to the beach like in Hua Hin, which is close to Bangkok or Phuket, futher south but guarantee with the beautiful beaches and nice people. I'd say try to avoid Bangkok and go some place else. People are nicer and less people, less polutions.
Or you might want to try Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai which are up north or Kanchanaburi which is not very far from Bangkok.

Yes, I live here and there are many many varied places of interest to see and things to do.. mtns, beaches, etc.. I live in the Central Plains where there are not many tourists.. people are very friendly everywhere.. they are light-hearted and smile easily.. maybe refine your question a bit based on your interests and you should get some more specific answers here - - good luck and enjoy your travels..
