Infections smell, and that's the most obvious sign. It will also look fairly disgusting, and if there's puss it will taste bad.
However, it's only been 3 days...yes? I was swollen for 8, and it was fine. Nothing went wrong. Your skin is senstive because you just went through a brutal beating! Let it go for another 3 days and then see how it's doing.

Well some of what you say is normal...The swelling around where the needle inserted however the swelling peaking at 3 days is not normal. You should be on your way to recovery. As long as you were following the instructions and resting the surgery should have healed. I would suggest that you go to the dentist for a followup.

Nothing wrong with calling your dentist just to be sure.
I lucked out and didn't get swelling too badly, but know some people get an amount. As for pain and sensitivity, it's totally normal for it to be tender for quite a while. Your poor mouth just went through something major, so it's going to be a bother for a bit. Heck, I just had my first root canal and it's sore enough I'd almost rather have the wisdom removal soreness back. lol

No that's normal. I had a simailar problem. I didn't have an infection, but I read how you tell.... the pains horrid, the stiches don't hod back much bleeding, and it's just aweful. To get rid of it, see a doctor. To make sure you don't get it, just follow this one guideline....Don't put any pressure in your mouth. No straws, no whistling, no sucking, no pressure. And don't worry about the stiches sensations, it should feel like that. It'll lessen along with any swollenness. Just feel lucky that you didin't get all four removed when you were 14!

You should be fine. Recovery is definitely painful. My teeth were deeply impacted and hurt like heck even with the pain killers I took. Make sure not to annoy the areas where the teeth were taken out, otherwise that could cause you some trouble. Make sure to keep up the salt water swishing and don't eat anything rough that you need to chew a lot.

As far as infections goes,
Have someone else smell your breath.
Do it about 30-45 minutes after you've brushed and rinsed, and before eating, so they won't smell food, but any infection that may be there.
Also, make sure that (if they don't bother your stomache) that you're taking plenty of anti-inflammatories.
Call your dentist just to make sure, he may want to prescribe an anti-biotic, just to be on the safe side.
Good luck!

I know somebody whos mouth hurt for 2 weeks. it was probably infected in the gums to last that long but if it is really painful you should see your dentist or if it lasts that long. it probably is infected but it might not turn out to be that bad of an infection.

you should have been scheduled for a follow up appoint ment. dry socket can occur if food get caught in the hole where the tooth was pulled . after 3 days the needle marks should have gone down. you may have dry socket and that could prevent your mouth from healing as fast as it should. . if you are feeloing pain up to your ear , you should go see your doctor inthe morning.

If you get this really really really hard/tough spot on your cheeks, i know thats some kind of infection,
but like any surgery it does take time to recover and i think it should still be swollen

i dont remember if i swelled, but give your oral surgeon's office a call and ask. You probably paid a good amount to get it done, so I wouldnt feel bad calling. When I got mine done, it hurt so bad I was ready to cry for a couple days, and I had vicodin!
