Before you start to read ask God to show you a verse that will help you and is not boring

Do you have God's Holy Spirit? "If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him" (Romans 8:9). Unless a man is born again, he cannot see, or enter the Kingdom of God' (John 3:3-5). But if you truly have been born of the spirit, spend time in meditating on God's word - read it slowly, thoughtfully, repeatedly, prayerfully. One simple way of doing this is beginning your devotions with thankfulness and praise (see Psalm 100:4). Then when you have a sense of God's presence read the scripture until something captures your attention - not intellectually, but I mean the attention of your heart - then read the sentence over and over, emphasizing first the first word, then the second, then the third, and so on. Make it an experience with God. He wants to teach you personally. It can become the best part of your day, if you persist, if you BELIEVE !

Well if you are born again the Holy Spirit will bring verses to your remembrance and show you how to apply them to your life. A person who has the Spirit wants to let the word of Christ dwell in them richly and gains great confidence with this spiritual light for their feet and a lamp for their path.

Sorry if you find the Bible boring. I love reading God's word and letting it direct the decisions I make in my life. I didn't come to faith till I was in my 40's. Before that I used to look down on all of the "losers" that I saw around me in life. Not people of faith mind you, since I didn't know any Christians back then. I was just proud of my intellectual acumen and thought that I could figure out how to make decisions on my own without anyone's help.

Fortunately for me, God knows those who belong to Him and He kept me alive long enough to come to Him with the sacrifice that He will always accept. A broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart. If you find the Bible boring then maybe it's because you don't have a good teacher. If you want to listen to an excellent Bible teacher who makes it simple and has a great sense of humor and practical applications for your life then check out Pastor Paul Sheppard @ http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/enduring_truth/archives.asp

He always leave me enlightened and encouraged!

It's not a drudgery or duty or boring when you have a closer relationship with God. The law doesn't come alive to you unless you are born of the spirit first. I read the Bible and went to church all my life but the last time I dedicated my life to Jesus, He gave me a new love and understanding and thirst for His Word and wrote His laws upon my heart. Pray for wisdom. He will give it to you. Draw nigh unto God and He will draw nigh unto you. Give him all your soul mind and body, seek the Kingdom of heaven and His righteousness first and He will give you the desires of your heart (pure desires). God bless.

Try a book that hasn't been (mis)-translated a dozen times. Take a look at Conversations with God Vol 1-3 (I related to vol. 1 the best) by Neale Donal Walsch.

For me I tried to read devotionals before I read the Bible, it does not work well. Read the Bible then read devotionals, but always continue bible reading.

Don't. Buy a copy of "The Imitation of Christ" tomorrow....it's by St. Thomas a Kempis.

Apply THAT to your life....

Then begin to read Scripture.

Your life will change.
