http://www.gideons.org/

The Gideons International serve as an extended missionary arm of the church: Their sole purpose is to win men, women, boys and girls to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ through association for service, personal testimony, and distributing the Bible in the human traffic lanes and streams of everyday life.

http://www.gideons.org/faq.html
Members of The Gideons International place and distribute scriptures in 181 countries in 82 languages. They focus on five primary areas:
Hotels and Motels
Hospitals, Nursing Homes, and Domestic Violence Shelters
Schools, Colleges, and Universities
The Military, Law Enforcement Personnel, Firefighters, and EMTs
Prisons and Jails

The Gideons place entire (66 book) Bibles in hotel and motel rooms. They used to distribute copies of the New Testament with Psalms & Proverbs to students in school.

It does seem they mainly distribute the KJV and the "New" KJV translations in the English language but they distribute the Scripturs in 81 other languages as well ... and, of course, those will not be KJV translation.

If you read http://www.gideons.org/faq.html you can find where they place Full Bibles, where they place Large New Testaments, and pocket-size New Testaments.

The Gideon Bible has the Gideon emblem on the cover. I am not certain, but I do think they publish the Scriptures without note or comment in the text, but perhaps with a "how to be saved" on the inside back cover or some such place.

Gideons International is an organization (not a religion) that hands out Bibles to schools, hotels, etc. for free. The translation they give out is the NKJV, or New King James Version, which is a 1980s translation of the KJV in updated language. It usually includes the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs.

The Gideons are simply distributers of the Bible. They have distributed the KJV, the NASB, and other versions as well.
They don't have their own translation of the Bible.
They have distributed more New Testaments than complete Bibles, simply because it is smaller and cheaper, also a pocket New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs is very handy.
But they have also distributed complete Bibles.

I don't know much about the origin of the gideon bible, but the King James version was interpretted by about 50 different scholars who wanted to know the truth. CHeck out on google the origin of the books and you will find that the KJV is the correct bible that we should read.

The Gideon's are Bible publishers that give them away as a ministry. They do not have their own version of the scripture. They publish KJV Bibles and New Testaments. I've had both from them. I think they also publish other versions nowadays, but I"m not positive on that. Do a search for them as I bet they have a website. They are a non-profit organization.

God Bless,

Sue

The Gideons are a society that places bibles in motels and other hostelries, and they used to be kjv bibles (they may still be) they have nothing to do with the translation (except they generally pass out kjv) of the bible and they also pass out whole bibles (with old testament).

Gideon is an organization that distributes copies of The Bible. I'd imagine they're KJV or maybe they've come up to the 20th century with a NIV.

I believe that the religion that teaches from the Gideon (and other) Bibles is called Christianity.
