It's highly unlikely your dog will die from ringworm. We recently had an outbreak with five of my six dogs affected. I spent the money and gave them the pills as prescribed by the vet and bathed them with prescription shampoo, but I think the best med was the ointment purchased at Walmart for jock itch. Just apply it at least two times daily to the sores. It is very contagious, so keep things as clean as possible. Routine cleaning of bedding and sleep areas with bleach will help. Be prepared as this will take about four months to go away. We are finally ringworm free, but it was a committment to their treatment. This is not the end of the world though and definately not the end of your dog's life.

Your dog need veterinary care. Over-the-counter medications and bathing the dog will not eradicate it. Ringworm isn't a "worm", it's a fungus -- and humans can get it. If your mom knows the dog has ringworm and is refusing to get treatment for the dog, she can be cited by both your local Health Department (for keeping an unhealthy animal that poses a medical threat to humans) and your local Animal Control office (for neglect of the dog). Those citations will cost her a LOT more than the veterinary bill will. GET THE DOG TO A VET.

Your dog should really be seen by the vet--a prescription would work a lot better than anything over the counter. Perhaps your local animal shelter will see him for less money?
Failing that, try Lotrimin AF (the athlete's foot stuff--it is the same fungus). If you can, shave the affected areas and then apply the Lotrimin daily to them. You'll need to keep this up for at least four weeks--every day, even if it starts to look like it has been cured.
Unfortunately, Lotrimin isn't cheap, so if money is the problem, you may be out of luck. It costs about $10 a tube for the large tubes, if I recall correctly.
Maybe you could go to a vet's place and offer to work for them in exchange for seeing your dog? You may end up shoveling up dog and cat poop and moping floors that the animals have peed on, but it's better than your dog going without care.
Good luck!

The vet tech is right, ringworm is very contagious to humans! You and your mom are at risk! I have worked with animals for 10+ yrs and have seen people catch ringworm from their pets. In fact, someone brought their infected pet to my work and gave me ringworm with just a couple of minutes touching it. I had it for over a month! It was AWFUL! Make sure to isolate the pet, clean everything he has touched with bleach, and for you guys to shower well. Do not touch him other then to put on the cream that he will get from the vet.
To stop him from getting these infections, keep his area clean and keep him dry.

There is no home remedy for ringworm. How do you even know that is what it is without having a vet diagnosis? You need to see a vet in order to get it under control, it is a very tricky thing to get rid of

it almost HAS to go to the vet... the worms can spread, and if they get to its heart, well-- i don't think i have to tell you.
plus, ringworms can infest humans, too. so if the dog isn't treated, there's a chance that your mom and whoever else lives with the dog could get them too.
don't try the OTC meds you get at petsmart, they've got chemicals and junk in them that aren't good for your dogs.
the vet bill shouldn't be too expensive-- you'll pay for an office visit, fecal exam and the meds.. you're looking at $30 + $8-10 $ $20.. so, what.. $60-65 max?
take the dog to the vet.
pronto.

he needs to go the the vet. Ringworm is highly contagious and you and anyone else who is around him can catch it. Take him tomorrow. It is something you can catch from him.

You can try a topical anti-fungal medication on the area. Check the medication to be sure it will not harm the dog if ingested.
