You should try to get the dog to come with a treat. I recommend maybe going into a pet store and choosing one made by the company Happy Tails. Every dog I know loves it!!! So after you get him to come close enough to get the treat give it to him and while he is eating it either put a leash on him if he has a collar or pick him up while he is eating it. Or since the dog is probably hungry put a cage in your backyard and while you are away put a bowl of dog food in the cage maybe have it when the dog steps in somehow the door of the cage would clothes or something like that. I hope this helps and if it does I hope you get the dog and I feel the way you do about that dog without even seeing it. So I hope you save the dog no matter what.

This sounds so sad! And we've had the problem many times. People have dropped off over 12 dogs, and four cats. What I did, was put food out there everyday. And water.
I've learned that you DO NOT chase the animal. This makes them fear you even more.
I set out food everyday, with water and if the animal came to eat then I would not disturbe it.
Then, after about a week I stood out there by the foodand waited for the pup to go up there . I quitley called it, and helded the food. I called it, and held the food out to see if the dog/cat would take it out of my hand.
It's good that your atleast trying to help this dog. Most people would call it a hopeless case and say just call the pound. It sounds like his condition, the pound would put him down as soon as he got there.
GOD bless you for trying to help
Good Luck!

Do you have time to sit and wait for it to come to you? If so, put some meat - or can dog food in an plate or container, sit and wait by the food and talk to the puppy very gently...when it learns it can trust you, it will come toward you. Do not move quickly or it will run away. It sounds as though it was abuse or mistreated and it will have to learn to trust you before you can pet it...it may take time...do you want the puppy...you will have to be patient about getting it to let you pet it...it will have to learn to trust you first. It needs to eat and then it will trust you in time. Be patient, I know it will be hard. Good Luck!

you need to bring him food every day at the same time. bring something that has a good smell like fried chicken, hot dog or cat food.try to feed him in your hand, have one of those leashes from a vet office since is easier to put around the neck of the dog or you can contact a rescue org or spca and see if they have a trap( is not cruel to use a trap since doesn t hurt them]0 if he is catch by the animal control you can go and adopt the dog from them but if the pound is very croweded they will put him down fast. remenber the puppy mae scream because he is scared. dont run after him. do you live in los angeles?

Actually, you could work in conjunction with Animal Control. Tell them about the dog and ask for their assistance in capturing it, and tell them that you are willing to adopt and care for the animal if they can catch it for you. If Animal Control knows there is an adopter immediately available, they'll be more inclined to get the dog. They love it when they can get the dogs off the street and into loving homes. And, if the dog goes through the Animal Control system, Animal Control may be able to pay the initial expenses of vaccinating and spay/neutering the dog.
Also try getting the local media involved. If the dog is truly needy, they may be able to publicize its story and help you get the dog donations for the medical care it will need.
We applaud your willingness to take in this obviously needy fur-baby!

Get some treats and leave them in a trail to you. Don't move suddenly and don't force yourself on him. Allow him to come to you. Once he is safely within arms reach, gently grab him and take him in your house where you and your Dad can get a better look at him and get him to the vet hospital. It may take a bit to get him to you but just be patient and stick it out, this time of year is bad for animals to be outside! It's so great of you to be reaching out to this poor puppy like this, good luck and please let us know how things go!

Honestly, I'd recommend having a local animal shelter, such as your SPCA, come by to get the animal. You don't want to wait too long, as the poor puppy could be starving.
Most animal shelters will allow you to adopt the animal that you helped to rescue.
Atleast give them a call, and explain the situation. Let them know that there's a stray pup by your place and you'd like to rescue it but it won't come to you. If anything, they should be able to offer you some advice.

Try to lure it by leaving food out then each day try to get it use to seeing you and let it know you are there to help not hurt it. Then once it gains trust in you it may let you pet it or even pick it up.
