My wife just found out today that she is exactly seven weeks pregnant. Does that mean that we conceived seven weeks ago, to the day?

No. Because pinpointing the "exact" day when a woman conceives a child is difficult in most cases (an exception would when she undergoes IFV), doctors begin counting pregnancy from the first day that the woman's last period began. Most women do remember when their last period began. So, if your wife is seven weeks pregnant, then she conceived about five weeks ago, and seven weeks ago was when she began her last period.

No, it means her period was seven weeks ago. Doctors typically estimate the due date on the last menstrual cycle. Women usually ovulate around 2 weeks after the first day of their period. Your wife may be seven weeks but the actual conception was probably closer to five weeks ago. Congrats though. I'm 11 weeks along with my second and it's going great.

Doctors are too often wrong about exactly how many weeks or days a person is pregnant. If that is exact, usually within 24 to 48 hours after intercourse the baby was conceived.

No that means you conceived around 5 weeks ago. Its been 7 weeks since her last period and then it takes 2 weeks for her to ovulate after that. That will be when you conceived.

A 40 week pregnancy actually begins on the first day of the woman's last period. THis means that the day you conceive, you are actually considered to be 14 days along (assuming you conceived on her ovulation day). These are just approximates and everyone is different. For example, my last period was Oct 26/05 and I concenved on Nov 7/05- My baby was due 40 weeks from Oct. 26/05.

Congratulations!

Depends what you mean just found out. How? If she went to the doctors they asked her when her last period was. They then add one week to the first day of her period and count weeks until present. Or she could have had an ultrasound that measures the babies development and size to determine how far along she is. It's not an exact science. If it was more babies would be born on their "due date".

No, that means that the start of her last period was exactly seven weeks ago. You probably conceived somewhere around five weeks ago.

Not necessarily. Usually the due date is determined by measuring the fetus, which can change drastically from visit to visit. Also, not every ultrasound machine will give you the same reading. When I was pregnant, my twins measured the exact same every time until I had an u/s technician do it on a different machine, then they started to measure different sizes. Likely though, it is somewhere in the ballpark, give or take up to 14 days.

No. 7 weeks is counted from the first day of her last cycle. gestational age is 2 weeks less... so 5 weeks ago. The first 2 weeks she is actually not pregnant.
