The Pope was at an Orthodox communion during his visit to Turkey. The congregants each went up to the priest . He gave each one a spoonful of some kind of liquid which he took from a pitcher that he held, and then gave them a blessing.
Can you tell me what kind of liquid that was?

In Eastern Orthodoxy, the Host is LEAVENED bread, unlike the unleavened wafer/Host used in the Western Church.

The Cosecrated Bread is put into the Chalice WITH the Consecrated Wine - and Holy Communion is given by the Priest to the indiviual communicants with both the (very soggy) Bread and Wine (Body and Blood) on a spoon.

It wasn't a "pitcher" - it was a very large Chalice (cup)

The liquid was a mixture of the body and blood of Jesus Christ, under the appearance of a mixture of wine, water, and small portions of bread, common in the eastern churches.
