Absolutely! It is usually said in a hateful condescending way. If I told Christians "I will think for you" how would they take it!

When a Christian or any other religion says they will pray for you. It means that they are concerned. We don't mean it as an insult. NO WAY ! We hopefully mean , that anything we can say , will make you feel better. It means that we really care and want you to know that there is hope , if we pray for you. When I am really down and out, it makes me feel better, when someone says they will pray for me. It puts my mind on something better and helps to get onto a better thought. It is a sad day, when anyone would take this (I will pray for you) as an insult. When my Sweet Little Boy died, others could see how grief stricken I was. I sank to the bottom of my Valley. Deep into the dark Valley. I could not look up, as my grief was so deep . One precious old women said to me. I will pray for you !
I finally looked up and into her wrinkled face and as I looked up, I saw a light. Slowly I climbed up out of the Valley, but it took many months. As I climbed , I headed for the light. I always remembered this old woman saying, I will pray for you. It helped me. We don't mean it as an insult, but a helpful sentence.

I don't think they mean it to be an insult but sometimes it comes across as such since it sometimes hints that you are pitiful and hopeless and need to be prayed for. It might be better if we felt that someone needs prayer that we just silently pray for them and leave them be. I haven't had the experience of any saying they would pray for me if I asked a question that was not liked. Many times I have wished though that fellow Christians would say a prayer for wisdom before they answered questions.

From some yes from others no. I would hope 99% of christians are implying that they see a need in some peoples questions &/or lives and are willing to ask God to intervine on their behalf to offer help or a solution, they are coming from a space of love & concern. This might be a bit disconcerting for most people as it implies the person has a fault and its criticising, but if you do not believe then there's nothin to worry about is there?

No it's not an insult it's the truth. Real Christians pray for others like yourself. The real question is why are you looking for an insult from Christians?

I wonder why you think of it as an insult. You must remember that we believe that God wants what is best for all people, including you. A Christian praying for you is the least of your problems. God is good and His mercy is forever. We all need a little help in this life. Rest assured that if a Christian is praying for you and it is not in line with the will of God, God will not answer that prayer. Christianity is not witchcraft. Perhaps if they pray for you about an answer they don't like then God will give them more of a heart for non-believers. He works things in His way not ours.

definitely can be both ...
some use it instead of saying, "you're freakin' crazy"
while others really will pray for you and no insult is intended; rather, they are trying to express genuine love and concern ...
but you can usually tell by how and when they say and what else they say in their responses
it's really annoying when they say it as an insult though

unfortunatly there is alot of questions asked in religion and spirituality that i dont like. seems like instead of asking real questions that need real answers, most would rather insult us. 'i will pray for you', is not an insult. it is thier promise to pray for you because they care for your immortal soul. i hope this answers your questions, take this however you choose but i mean it as a sincerity. i will pray for you.

Sometimes, people use it that way as a self-righteous insult. Sometimes, people are genuinely concerned about the situation of another person. Prayers can sometimes be used manipulatively, but don't lump everyone into a category or make assumptions about motives.

Well, I say it to my brother this way when he speaks to me...." I will smoke dope around your son and my son whenever and wherever I want to, I dont care if it affects anyone. I dont care if I go to jail and I dont care if I fail my U.A. again for the 5th time at my probation meeting." Then I say " I wont have my son around you with that attitude. " The only thing I can do for u is not speak to you. " Then he says " You think you are better than me, you are a mommys girl" Then I say" Oh my Lord, He needs prayer. " Then I say again, " No, the best thing I can do for you is pray for you and I will. Starting right now".
