Jesus is a compilation of three different ideas.
He is about 1/3 Mithra, 1/3 The riped off teachings of John the baptist and the rest an itinerant rabbi schooled in Tibetan Buddhist ways and teachings.

All of this has been packaged as the idea of Jesus that we have been told about.

I think of him as a minor preacher who lived a very long time ago, and, after he died, people started telling exaggarated stories about him until it finally turned into yet another crackpot religion. It is impossible to tell the difference between things he may have actually said and the hype/mythology that grew up around his cult after he was dead and couldn't dispute the accounts.

But, really, what somebody said or did 2000 years ago is less important than the things people are saying and doing NOW. And the ones who claim to have been inspired by Jesus are NOW doing a lot of damage (along with some good once in a while, to be fair). IF he even existed and said some of the things he is quoted as having said, he would be appalled by all the violence and intolerance and enslavement that has been done in his name.

I can tell you both what I think and know.
Jesus was a Jew.
He was killed by Romans.
He was the son of a carpenter.
He was born in a stable.
He never claimed to be god.
I think he was a man on a mission to reform his religion just like Martin Luther (the founder of the Lutheran Church). Just like Martin Luther he didn't set out to create his own religion. He set out to right the indignities and wrongs of it. Everyone else came up with the idea of breaking a way from the established religion. Also the concept of Heaven started with him. Before that Jews believed that one just went into an eternal sleep over watched by god.

I like to think of him as a great grammarian who sends people to hell when they can't put together a simple sentence.
