It depends on what type of clay shooting you are going to do; sporting clays, trap and skeet shotguns are choked differently. For versatitility you can get guns with exchangeable chokes or you can have an extra set of barrels made (Briley makes good conversions and mods).

In view of the large number of shots that you shoot when shooting clays, you want to make sure that you do not get a hunting shotgun which is not built for shooting 100 rounds in fairly quick succession. I would reccomend any of the following: Browning, Beretta, Wetherby (Athena & Orion are decent) and Perazzi. I would definitely stay away from guns like Holland & Holland as they are designed for hunting (we won't even mention the price).

My family have been sporting clays enthusiasts for years. My dad shoots competitively and favors Beretta, one of his shooting buddies who is an instructor prefers the Browning. I always liked the Whetherby Athena. If you want less kick-back you can either go for a gas-return shotgun (single barrel, one shot goes in the side and the other one is loaded underneath, both come out of the same barrel. They are cheaper but don't have the "snob" value) or try a lower guage (like a 20 or a 22 instead of a 12). The lower gauge will make a smaller pattern and the shot will not go as far so it's harder to hit clays that are farther away. Due to health reasons, my father has had to switch to a 22 from a 12; he still does pretty well now that he is used to it.

i think of "Autoloading double barrel" is merely lacking punctuation....Autoloading, double barrel (SxS or O/U) ... definite, you need to use a pump. shooting catch you oftentimes shoot singles purely, so Pump, motor vehicle, Double, single fairly does not count. you will never shoot extra advantageous than Doubles, and that i haven't been at a catch selection/gun club that could desire to make it easier to load extra rounds than the style of objectives you're approximately to be provided. Skeet, you will see one objective or 2, so ditto any variety of gun would be superb, as quickly as you have had some prepare with your pump you would be super. carrying Clays or comparable i've got likewise never been provided extra advantageous than 2 objectives at as quickly as. A pump would be superb as quickly as you're used to it and could get the 2d shot off easily. i desire to propose for a newbie a Mossberg 500 with the 28" Ported, multi-choke barrel, could desire to be obtainable at your nearest gunselling Wal-mart or comparable for under $2 hundred.
