Yes. Google "Hutt River Province". It is a principality separate from Australia but is situated in the state of Western Australia. They have their own 'royal' family -- Prince Leonard of Hutt and Queen Shirley. They have a son - Crown Prince Wayne. I'm not kidding. Check it out! It's hilarious!

They seceded from Australia because they didn't want to pay tax to the Commonwealth of Australia - so they 'declared war' on Australia, held a 'revolution' and became a separate nation. They have their own coinage, postage stamps and war medallions.

There is a place in Western Australia called the Hutt River province. It's a blokes farm. He had a blue with, from memory, the wheat marketing board and seceeded from the country. It became a bit of a tourist attraction, they sold stamps and coins, called each other Prince and Princess and it was all good fun. At one stage they decided not to pay Australian taxes and a fair bit of the laughter stopped. Prince Lenard Was his name, haven't heard of him for ages.

Yup, and I believe there are more than one small 'kingdoms' in Australia. Check out the Lonely Planet book about the small kingdom or home-made countries around the world, quite amazing!
