Yes and no. Individuals (adults and children) with ADD and ADHD have a tendency towards depression and statistics suggest that they may occur at the same time in many cases, particularly if the person is undiagnosed. Struggling with symptoms such as an inability to maintain one's focus for any length of time and disorganization can certainly have an effect on self-esteem and the individual may compensate for their feelings of being overwhelmed by "shutting down". So yes and no, they are not characterized by the same diagnostic criteria, however they can (and often do) occur simultaneously.

Children tend to act aggressively when they are depressed. They are the ones most frequently diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder.

Think about it. When you're depressed your concentration is not where it's supposed to be, you get angry more easily, and as an adult you will tend to try and change your scenery.

Well, children aren't so far different, they just don't know how to tell us why they are feeling sad. We tend to prevent them from seeking a change of scenery and if they are out of control and angry, we punish them or medicate them.

Yes, the symptoms are similar, but the treatment should be drastically different.

ADD and depression can be linked but because children's minds operate differently than adults it is often difficult to properly diagnose. Children's minds are constantly growing and allot of times are preoccupied and need a little help clearing up all the "mu-sac" or background noise in there minds that's when meds are prescribed.

No they are two different disorders, but Depression does involve the symptom of Attention Deflect so I can see where you are getting that. I hope this helps! :)
