It's going to be difficult to "feel" 82 degrees, as it's slightly below body temperature. It will feel lukewarm (neutral) or slightly cooler, but definitely not cold. If it feels warm to the touch, it's too warm (probably over 95 deg).

On top of your cable box is probably a good idea. Like the other person suggested, I think you should buy a thermometer from the kitchen section of a store. Get the stainless steel kind with the temperature markings on a small dial. They usually cost less than $5.

So what are you incubating? Be careful about sticking your finger in the rice, or you might disrupt the growth of ... whatever it is you're growing. Hope it goes well.

Instant read thermometers are fairly inexpensive ($5-$10)and an absolute Godsend to a cook of any (excuse the pun) "degree". Well worth getting one--even Walmart has them now, I think.

I'm really curious as to what you are making with 82 degree rice--your own beer, maybe? Homemade Sake? Brown rice or white rice? How long do you need to maintain this temperature?

Have fun--hope it's legal!

82 degrees is a bit warmer than normal room temperature. It would feel warm, but not hot.

Say you're room is around 72 degrees. So a bit warmer than that. So on top of the TV should be fine. If it feels warm, you're good.
