I'm an avid seed spitter. I've been eating sunflower seeds by the BAGS for roughly ten years or more. Through any given month, I'll buy 8 bags (which is my stash), and go through 2-4 in during that period.

But I don't eat THROUGH a single bag. It normally takes me a week.

So it leaves me wondering: Does eating this much result in serious heart problems?

Nuts of all kinds are healthy for you - especially good for the heart. If you want to avoid salt, it shouldn't be a problem to buy them lightly salted or with no salt. I eat a lot of sunflower seeds and have no problem purchasing them with or without salt.

As with all things, however, too much of something can potentially cause problems. Either check with your doctor or perhaps even a better idea is to go to Ask Jeeves or some such sight and look the info up. But I wouldn't exactly be worried about it.

Do you have heart problems? the last I heard seeds and berries and gathering foods are all good for us. The oils, fats from nuts and seeds are good for our hearts and not bad. So, I'm just curious why
you'd ask the question. the only harm I can see is if the seeds aren't harvested or grown without pesticides. That may make some difference but I don't know wbout the way they are grown or harvested and this wouldn't be a heart issue. So, further research is needed before I'd stop eating my seeds. Good luck.

If it does I am in real trouble! I go thru a small bag a day! The salt can raise your blood pressure and cause water retention, but other than that they are full of fiber and other good stuff! I have congestive heart failure, doc says my eating habits are not the cause, but said to stay away from salt, so I wash them off in hot water to eliminate most of the salt! So I don't think you are in any danger! Enjoy!

I have never heard of any seeds causing heart problems. I would be more concerned about putting those whole seeds in my mouth. I would be concerned about pesticides or handling of the unshelled seeds.
I never could enjoy sorting them in my mouth! And it is pretty gross spitting those hulls all the time!
