why is a california king size bed called a california king?

where does the name come from? Why not just an oversized king?

LOL! Good question, I guess because Califorians are taller and thinner than the rest of us, hence their king size beds are longer and not as wide.

Calfronia kings are longer as well as wider.

because the first place it was manufactured was in Calif.
