Hello. I am a Manic Depressive and take the same medication. I have found it extremely beneficial to my life and having gotten over the first week of taking it, when I felt so ill that I never thought that I'd stick it out, it lifted my depression very suddenly and has helped combat it since. During that first week I had no energy at all and it was like having permanent morning sickness. When the depression lifted I was awake and It was a purely physical thing which felt like a warm glow that spread from my chest outwards, this left me feeling calm and although my problems were still there I felt able to cope with them. What I found was that the side effects of the drug were not fully explained to me at the beginning. The biggest of these is that it becomes very hard to achieve an orgasm, the drug is also administered to men who suffer from premature ejaculation. One other big side effect is that you crave alcohol, my own doctor refused to believe this but I have spoken to many others on this drug and they have agreed with me that it does happen. It is almost impossible to get drunk though. To start with I only took one capsule each day but am now on five a day, the maximum dose. I would say that even with the side effects, I would not have been able to cope without it, it is only with this medication that I have any sense of peace within myself and am happy in my own skin.

I took Venlafaxine 75mg for about 4 months for depression. They really didn't have much of an effect except dizziness and excess sweating. I then had the dose increased to 150mg. This did help the depression a lot but the dizziness became very bad as did the sweating to the point where my quality of life was badly affected. I decided to wean myself
off them but even though I did it slowly I had horrendous withdrawal symptoms. I have taken quite a few antidepressants but these were by far the worst for withdrawal. I almost went mad! I had hallucinations and nightmares. It was one of the worst things i ever went through. I felt so ill. I would recommend something different if at all possible. Sorry if this seems scary but I just think that docs don 't really understand these things. Citalopram is much better and easier to quit. Good luck to you both xx

I take Venlafaxine 150mlg. I have done for nearly 18 months. If I miss a few days like when I forget to hand in my renewal form I get horrible nightmares and easily lose my temper. My short term memory is poor since taking them and they cause horrendous wind. I would ask your husbands doctor if there is an alternative. Trouble is, if he has been prescribed Venlafaxine he has probably had all the lower power meds already. They are the last option sometimes!

If you've ever been disillusioned into thinking that there's nothing you can do to prevent premature ejaculation and that it's just something "you're born with" or "can't do anything about" then hopefully this will change your mind and inspire you https://tr.im/TuDMK
Because the truth is that there are many ways to prevent premature ejaculation, and being able to last longer in bed is something that lies within your control.

I've taken them and they didn't suit me, I felt nauseous and sweaty. What doesnt suit one person may be fine for someone else. If he has started taking them it's very important that he doesn't stop suddenly, can be really dangerous. I came off an antidepressant without guidance and was really ill ! Hope they work for him !
