Today i went to court with my baby's dad for child support along with having to pay for the son he's never seen he also wanted to have my son's last name changed to his.. so my question is this if he requested no parenting time and has made no attemts to see him why does he want him to have his last name? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

It most likely a control issue or it may be because he wants someone there to carry on his family name, but he still sounds like a dead beat dad, and he should get nothing from you. He should just get a life.

1. Please out of respect for the beautiful being the two of your created, refer to him as the Father of your child. Do not degrade your child or him by that phrase..."my baby's daddy" (no matter what kind of a SOB he acts like, I know it's difficult, I've been there before)
2. Civily explain to the aforementioned_______. That until he consistently behaves like the child's "daddy" the name change is not even up for discussion! (Any one can father a child, but it takes a real man to be a "daddy")
3. If and when you all make it pass 1 & 2. Kindly let him know that he'll have to pay for the name change.

Why he wants the name changed (in my opinion) is purely selfish. He's simply want's to put his name on IT.
You have the deliacate task of ensuring that the father earns/and honors his rights as a "daddy" while protecting the heritage & lineage of your son.

Even though he is not part of his life actively or willingly giving any type of support it is still a source of pride for a man to have a male child and a son with his surname gives him more believable bragging rights immature but generally true.
