I was in a huge shopping center today and along with screaming kids, kids fighting with each other and one even grabbed another woman's butt I started kind of panicking. Then to make matters worse, someone came on the intercom saying that someone had lost they're one year old child. This is my first pregnancy and I'm five weeks along, any advice on how to not stress myself out so much? I keep thinking I'm going to be a horrible parent or what if I lose my one year old one day??? Ahhhhh....

It is natural to be stressed about this. I rememer wondering how in the heck I would know what to do. The strange thing is that we are actually programed for most of it. Most of the rest we pick up through experience real quick or pick up from parents and freinds (and as a very last resort the parenting books).

You prove you will be a good parent because you are concerned about being one. Just vow that you will not let your kids become monsters like the ones you saw (I have some tips on that--but that is not the topic here). And I am quite sure you are not the kind of parent who is going to loose a one year old.

I understand your fears. Just keep your child with you the whole time. A 1 yr old??? Boy, that sounds like it's just stupidity on the mother's part. I still make sure my 6 yr old is right by my side. There are freaks out there, so just keep your baby with you at all times. If you have to turn your head, keep physical contact 100%. Don't stress too much, your baby can sense those things. If something is just too stressful for you, leave that situation. If you need to do shopping, if you can, do it when kids are in school and not during lunch time. You can also shop on the internet.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. You still have a long way to go so take care.

Dont worry , you wont lose your child..:) I have 3 boys I have to keep track of when I go out and I havent lost one yet. Yes it can be stressful seeing other peoples kids, but I never let mine act like that in public. Some parents let their kids do whatever they want and dont watch their kids very well at all and all hell breaks loose.Other peoples kids stress me out too, when they are running circles around me, running into my cart, etc...Drives me nuts. You will know what to do when you have your child and Im sure you wont be a horrible parent.

You're already a better parent than those other ones because you actually CARE about your child. I can guarantee you those children have never been properly disciplined and that one year old probably has parents that couldn't give a rat's *** what is going on with their kid. It's sad, but it happens more than you think. I'm sure you're going to make a great mom..congratulations on your pregnancy :-)

it's really hard as a first time parent. i used to stress out so much that i would have nightmares about people trying to break into the house to steal the baby. now that my son is a year old and we have another one on the way, i have to look back and laugh at myself. things are never nearly as bad as you make them out to be. just try to relax. everything will fall into place on its own.

i have two kids. i was and am in the same boat. i still get nervous with a lot of kids. all i can say is discipline is the key. and i don't mean beating your kids, i mean what ever works for your kid. that could mean smacking there hands or time out or anything. ever kid is different. what works for one may not work for all. just do the best you can. Remember kids do not come with manuals.

wow! take a deep breath. 99.99 % of moms NEVER lose their children. if you keep beating yourself up over the .01% you will be certifiable in a short time. yes, keep one eye on the stove and one eye on the kids playing outside, but let the kids be kids.

That's nothing, what if the earth get hit by a massive, flaming asteroid?

Or what if the sun explodes???

Now THOSE are some things to worry about!
