I helped get a kitten out of my co-workers car (literally the inside). She had crawled up in the engine to get warm and got stuck. Now I'd like to take her home but she has "goopy eyes". I'm not sure if she just has grease from the car in them or another kind of problem. I have just been wiping out her eye all day very gentley. I know I should take her to the vet but I'm not in the position to pay huge vet bills...What should I do? The kitten is about 6 weeks old.

Take her to the vet - an office visit won't cost much and if the problem is too serious for you to handle/afford your vet can discuss the options with you. A 6 week old kitten needs her regular kitten shots too, if you can't afford even that maybe you should reconsider having a kitten at this point in your life- I'm sure there will be lots of homes open to her and there will be other kitties for you later on. :) good luck!

The kitten obviously has an upper respiratory infection. Which will get serious if not treated and it is contagious to other cats/kittens. The kitten will need antibiotics for at least 14 days to clear up the infection and will probably require eye drops, which unfortunately can only be prescribed by a veterinarian. I would suggest if you can't treat the kitten and soon, take it to a shelter, they may decide to keep and treat the infection, since kittens this time of year are few and far between. Call around to see what the estimate charge would be for the kitten to be seen by a vet, how do you know you're looking to pay a huge vet bill when you haven't checked. Or maybe there is a clinic in your area that offers low cost meds, shots and Rx. What ever you do, just don't do nothing! The kitten needs to be treated whether you do it or a shelter does it.

If you do not have the financial resources to take the kitten to a vet for proper medical treatment you should not keep her.

It is wonderful that you rescued her from that dangerous situation - now continue the good work by getting her health checked, her eyes treated, wormed, get first kitten shots etc. If you cannot afford this the kitten should be surrendered to a shelter where those things will be done for her and she will have a chance to get a good home with a family who can afford to provide for her needs.

A kitten can easily cost $200 in their first year if they are to live healthy lives. That would include spaying when she is the right age. Maybe the co-worker could come up with some $$ and you could get started with the kitten and save the money for the spay which should be done by the time she is four or five months old.

This kitten NEEDS to see a vet..if you can't afford medical attention she needs you might take her to the local shelter or find another home for her that can provide the vet exams that she needs or find someone who can help you . You also might be able to talk to a vet and explain the situation and they may be able to offer some kind of arrangements.Kittens can become very ill, very quickly. Illnesses that may not be critical to an adult can prove fatal for a kitten.

use saline solution. drop it in her eyes a few drops at a time, using a soft cloth to wipe her fur around the area. I would keep doing it for a few minutes, then let her be for awhile. Check again in an hour and see if she's still having problems and try again. If it doesn't clear up in a day, take her to the vet. She could have something more seriously wrong with her and she may need medicine. Sometimes if you say you found the kitty, rescued it, and want to keep it, they may offer to reduce the fee rather than see the animal taken to a shelter or not taken care of properly because of the cost.

There is nothing you can do except keep cleaning her eyes. If it continues then you will have to take her to the vet, because she probably has an upper respiratory infection and needs antibiotics. I know its tough because of the holidays, i know i have no money right now. Maybe call around to different vet clinics to get the cheapest price. Good Luck! I hope she is fine and her eyes clear up.

if she was going to get warm she may have done it because of illness...goopy eyes is a symptom of a URI...upper respiratory infection...if you also notice discharge from the nose...that her body is unsually warm( their temps are b/t 99.5-102.5 degrees)...or that she is sneezing, she needs to go to a vet. This is very contagious to other cats or could be a more serious problem. she should be atleast checked for FELV/FIV....those are two very serious diseases within the blood stream. FELV is like Leukemia for kitties...FIV is AIDs for kitties. As soon as you can, get her to a vet. Goodluck and feel free to email me with more questions

only what the vet suggests. And talk with the vet first to see of you could make payments in case the bill might be high! Sure beats worrying about what is wrong.

Just ring and ask your vet if you cannot afford a vet bill. They will give you advice over the phone or an animal welfare centre.Eyes are very tender are that age.

Thank you for rescuing this baby, but dear please consider a vet call or visit, I know there are certain things you should not put in their eyes. If you can't afford to take her there then see if your community has a humane society or ASPCA, they will help. Again you are a dear for saving this kitten.
