Spanking with an object is child abuse, everywhere, not just in Canada. It is not a parental right to abuse a child.

I don't agree, We spank with only our hand and would never use a object. However the government should not be interfering with how parents raise their children. Since I don't spank with a object doesn't mean it's abuse, abuse is when a lasting mark is left on the child such as a bruise. If a parent can use a object to spank w/o leaving any of these marks then I see no problem with it.

I agree with it.
BUT at the same point IT has changed the face of dicipline everywhere. Parents got so scared when they said no spanking with an object. KIDS thees days seem to get away with almost anything except murder. LACK of discipline has made children SPOILED ROTTEN.
I believe SPANKING is wrong. I was spanked as a child and instilling FEAR is not a way to get children to dicipline and respect you. IN FACT I hate my father for spanking me. AND dont think I could ever have a close relationship with him.
I never plan to spank my children. BUT I do plan to discipline them. THERE are so many different ways to get childent to behave and respect others.

I certainly do not agree. I spank mine with a paddle specifically designed for the purpose. My Mom spanked me with a hairbrush.
The point of a spanking is to cause some momentary pain. I also think there is a good reason kids should generally (except when really little) not be spanked with an extension of their parent's body--and is one of the reasons the Bible experience is that a "rod" should be used.
Besides, a lot of times spankings around my house are avoided when I just show up with the paddle in hand--immediate improvement in behavior:)
How times have changed. It is not exactly ancient history--I remember my Aunt had a paddle hanging in her kitchen with the slogan "For the Little Deer With the Bear Behind" on it (and it wasn't just there for humorous effect). And I used to see similar stuff in tourist shops. And kids were even paddled in school.
I wish this failed social experiment of no-spanking would eventually end. (and this Candian rule is just one of their many battles in the war--just like they took on bare bottom spanking a few years ago and then spanking in the schools)
I have noticed that a lot of younger parents like myself are rejecting the whole argument. We see what a wonderful job non-spanking did with the Boomers.

I wish we had that here in America--maybe less kids would end up in foster care and all that. I agree with spanking, but not with an object. Spankings should be done with an open hand only.

Why would one need a weapon in order to discipline their child in the first place? I don't even agree with spanking, never had to with my child, never known a child I'd ever have to use it for. I feel that those who have to resort to spanking have trouble with frustration and anger

I think that the liberals in Canada have butted in too far when it comes right down to it. I understand the concern, but one of the biggest dangers are govenments interfering with parental rights, usurping their authority and telling them what to do.
