DOOM4RENT--I agree w/ what you say,but an educated person doesn't buy into some silly notion simply because he is required to remember it.
It's more than an academic exercise.

MiCKINZ91---What is a religious person?
One who tries to be moral and considerate of others?--or
One wo dwells on and talks incessantly about how they have found an easy way into some great place called "Heaven", by simply claiming to love some god.

i am not religious...

but answer these questions first & then i'll answer yours.

why do a few "wise" people think it is "impressive" to memorize & cite "famous quotes" of "famous" people (philosophers, scientists, writers, presidents, etc.)?

do they think it will make them look "wise", "learned" & assume that if some "famous" person said it is must be "right".

nobody look at them as child-like or gullible... but if somebody quote a person (or a verse) from Scriptures... then it becomes child-like & gullible.

how do you define "a very childish book"?

are you aware that majority of what you know about history came from ancient writings & archaelogical evidence? & are you also aware that Scriptures are also defined as ancient writings or even eye-witness historical accounts, & are in fact some of the most reliable? if you do, then you will probably not label them as childish.

Same reason why the non religious quote from child-ish books. I mean, evolution and "The Earth is billions and billions of years old" is taught in 2nd grade and earlier.
