In my family, we always got a Terry's chocolate orange and little bits and pieces - bath foam, dvds, book, lipglosses etc. My brother would get dvds, book, gadgety toys and things. He wasn't as interested in the lipgloss as my sister and I.

I do remember one unfortunate year when my mother filled my stocking with socks, Marks & Spencers boring cotton knickers and roll-on deodorant. Still not sure what she was trying to tell me!

Certainly the traditional items are an orange, apple, banana & nuts but depending how old the children are, you can put in pampering items for teenage girls such as single sachet face & hair masks, mini shampoo & shower items that perhaps have a fruity scent. Also nail varnishes & lip glosses all things to let them get pampered on Christmas day.

And it's only 23 days 'till Christmas!! whooohooo!!

When I was small it was an apple and orange and a one of the smaller gifts. In the toe of the stocking was always a shiny coin. remember no small items if it is for very small children.

I think traditionally it's an apple, an orange/satsuma and nuts. I also get little things to stick in there - socks, lip balm, erasers, hair bands, etc etc
