When Christianity is criticized, the questioner will get a response calling the questioner ignorant or stupid but when a criticism is placed at Islam the questioner is accused of hate and intolerance?

For the record when I criticize something I expect to be told that I do not understand and my intelligence is to be questioned, because this is a passionate debate.

Also it is my impression that the attacks of “intolerance” are made mostly by non-Muslims. Is my impression right or wrong?

By the way most answers are not like this, but I have noticed a difference in the tone.

I think terrorism. Yes, we all know its not condoned, its not the norm and all that.

Buth the word "islam" gives me an image of people with bandanas over their mouths carrying uzi's in a desert. And planes flying into buildings.

I know its not right and maybe I watch too much TV. But ask an average Al-Jezeera watcher what he thinks of when he hears "american" or "christian". Right now, thats just the way it is.

Sorry, but I am trying to be honest, I feel your heart and know its a good one.

Blessings,
David

The media is why most people are afraid to criticize Islam. Face it, someone criticizes them, the next thing you hear on the news is demonstrations and death threats, sometimes followed thru with murders of innocent people that happen to be christian, though usually not associated with the person who they feel critized them in the first place, like that poor nun and the people with her who were murdered because of what the pope said. I keep hearing that Islam is a religion of peace, but haven't actually seen that, ever. It's much easier to criticize christians, we don't kill anyone over it.

Religious folks are vicious. Also, they're exploiting the current trend to tiptoe on eggshells around Muslims. You can't say anything, ANYTHING, that even remotely suggest a tone of negativity or skepticism or people will start screaming "INTOLERANCE, HATRED, YOU'RE GROUPING ME IN WITH EXTREMISTS, YOU ARE A BAD BAD PERSON, GAH!!!"

It's exploitation, pure and simple.

Someone is always ready to accuse and name call when they aren't intelligent enough to pass on real and useful information that will broaden our understanding of one another. That being said, are your questions intentionally insulting in any way? Here, you can't be careful enough to suit everyone but plenty of good folks will eventually answer your inquiries.

Criticism is to be taken with a grain of salt, a spoonfull of sugar. It helps to accept what is questionable or hard to accept. Tolerance is the ability to weather a criticism, without debasing yourself. You may not agree, but you don't pull out the knives.

I found this for most things. It mainly that people are so jingo. They learn the phrase to spout back when they can't awnser the question. If it was subtitled it would read:

"I cant awnser that so i will insult you until you go away".

sometimes questions like what you describe cause the questionees to feel like their sysem of beliefs, and way of life is bieng attacked. that is why so many people respond so passionately.
