I am single right now and most of my friends have left the city I live in and my family lives in another country.

Does anyone have ideas on how to spend New Year's eve alone? Even better, anyone know how to meet a similarly lonesome woman (preferably in her 20s) just to hang out with during part of this holiday season?

I painted my apartment one New Years eve. It was a great way to kick off the new year.
Maybe there are community events you can either attend of volunteer for.

Hey I'm another nurse working New Year's Eve. We are posting at the same time too. How funny. I work nights though.

Honestly, I have never liked New Year's Eve, it's always ended up being a disappointment, everything is too expensive, too crowded and too many drunks on the road. I always sign up to work NY's Eve now, I get doubletime so it's even better.

As for your question, I don't know how to meet someone to hang out, I guess the same way you meet people anywhere - bars, clubs, at the supermarket, at the mall, through friends, at work, at church, at clubs/social events, the bookstore.

However, if you find yourself sitting around feeling lonely and sorry for yourself by the holidays, I'd consider volunteering at a soup kitchen, shelter, nursing home, home for battered women and children, etc. Sometimes seeing those in more unfortunate circumstances and bringing joy to their lives makes you feel a lot better. Plus you can meet other people there who are either lonely like you, or kindhearted and giving - or maybe both those things.

Considering that I have to be at work at 0700 on the first...............
And, I won't really be "alone" - I'll have my cats curled up next to me in bed.
I know that probably sounds pathetic, but, it's a nice quite evening, which is what I need, since I work 12 hour shifts.
