"Malady" just means illness, disease or sickness. It is not a specific illness.

Malady is just another word for, "illness". To treat a malady, you need to know something about it. I.e., "what type of malady is it?"

Malady is also Malaise which is just an overall description of the body being ill.

It's just an old fashioned term. Kinda like the word "condition" was used for pregnancy. Malady was used for women when they fainted or for menstrual related issues.
