First let me tell you that I own a pest control company and what I will recommend is the complete treatment that should help you completely get rid of the fleas.
First, treat the dog with Capstar. This is a pill that will kill all of the fleas that get on the dog for the first 24 hours. Second, use either frontline or advantage. I usually tell people to switch back and forth between the two because there are two different types of fleas that are common on dogs and frontline works better on the one type and advantage works better on the other.
Once the dog has been treated, you must treat your home and yard. The best products to do this would include not only a killing agent, but also a sterilization agent. Inside, I would use Ultracide, if you can get it. (Many on line sites sell it.) Outside I would use Demon with Gentrol or Nylar. Treating your house and yard is just as important as treating the dog!
It is also very important to stay away from the grocery store or box store products like Zodiac or Hartz. Many of these products can cause severe allergic reactions in animals.

Advantage is the best flea preventative I have found. I have 3 cats and a dog, they all stay inside but have outside access also. Use it once a month all year long and your problem should go away. It may take awhile to get all the fleas killed out in your home You may still see a few on your pets but as soon as the flea bites an animal treated with Advantage it dies. You really need to spray and whip out as many as possible because 1 flea can lay 50 eggs a day. There are other treatments on the market but none I have found work as well as Advantage, it is a little expensive but you get what you pay for and your furry friend is worth it. Good luck.

the only thing that I found that works is through a vet, I use advantage,or frontline it is a small tube of fluid that you apply once a month, depending on how many dogs you have it can become quite pricey. it cost around $8-$10 per dog a month, but it works. then when the eggs from the fleas in you house hatch and they go on the dog it will kill them also, but you have to use it every month (depending on where you live) fleas die off in the winter if you live where it freezes.you would only need it now until you get them under control. I use to have the same problem ,the stuff in the stores doesn't work, (only temporarily)
foood luck

I'm not entirely certain how well this works with dogs, but I have used Avon Skin so Soft on my cats. It does not harm the animal. Also, the chemicals in flea sprays, collars, and the like are very harsh. I would not recommend them to anyone. I would talk to a good holistic vet about alternatives. I have heard that putting salt on your floor and vacuuming it up is helpful to rid your carpet of fleas. I tried it many years back and it seemed a little bit helpful.

The local vet can give you flea prevention treatment for your dogs. Usually Frontline or Advantage. It'll help keep the fleas at bay.

I aggree with the folks talking about preventative. I.e. frontline or Advantage. One thing you can do to help get rid of the flea eggs after you have had your home and yard treated (proffessionally is most effective) You can sprinkle salt over your carpets, beds, furniture etc. this dries up the eggs. after a day you need to vaccum the salt up. (watch your critters so that they don't eat the salt or that it doesn't irritate their feet and skin.). I have found that putting some garlic powder in your dogs food helps too.

You need a residual product for the fleas. This will usually come in tablet, or topical (creme/liquid forum). Your vet will have many different brands on hand. My personal choice is Revolution. Revolution is like a "super solution" that is for heart worm, ticks, fleas, parasites, etc.

First off don't use any OTC flea products including collars & shampoo. These products can cause serious problems..neurological, seizures even death. Use only safe products such as Frontline or Advantage. Keep up on the monthly use of these products and vaccumn daily.Empty the vaccumn in to an outside trash container, not inside to prevent reinfestation.

Outside of the house you can use food grade diatomaceous earth. inside if you put some lavender oil in their beds the fleas will avoid it because if i recall correctly they cannot stand it.
